| - I thought it was covered well for tv, Karraker did a decent job, but that fat boob with him was horrible. It would be nice to have a color anylyst that knows USA hockey rules and that the whistle is blown when a goal is scored. Strickland, a.k.a. Kermit the Frog was needless. |

Everybody has to complain. These guys work very hard with the team coordinators and coaches to get all the scoop on the players, they collect stats from the season, review name pronounciation, ask coaches who to look for on the ice, update themselves on how the teams got to where they are, etc. You have no idea of all the work that goes on behind the scenes. |

Until you sit there with the headset on and try to do what they do, you have no idea how difficult it is. Even if you know the players and/or teams you have to watch and react with good commentary very quickly. |

Mr "What did he say"
| Behan for color | March 5 2008, 11:58 AM |
The point of the color commentator is to provide some insight. It is important that he be familiar with the league, specific rules and the players. It isn't easy to find a professional announcer who would know those things. And it is not easy to do, I have tried and was tounge tied beyond belief. Jack Behan was outstanding for the years that he provided commentary and should be utilized anytime he is willing to do it. It would be nice for the participating players to have a tape with comments that are actually relevant. |

If you listened over the years to Jack doing commentary for Gamble (weekly cable games) and the championship, he knew the players and was fair in his observations. Don't think he was ever reluctant to say something nice about non-cbc players. |

| Randy is a drunk | March 5 2008, 1:34 PM |
I knew Randy when he was working for KCLC at Lindenwood College (no it was not a University then, and yes he was a student their). He was OK then and is OK now, but he was also a drunk then and now he has a big red nose...so I'm guessing he is still a drunk. What better way to promote high school hockey in St. Louis than having a drunk call the games. I am more in favor of having people more closely associated with our sport involved, such as local coaches or retired pro players. |

They won't bring Ken Wilson back because then that broadcast would be better than what the Blues have............Kelly has to go he is terrible.........it is tough enough listening to him when the Blues are winning but when they are loosing it is absolutely brutal. |

| The best pair was Wilson and Behan... | March 17 2008, 10:21 AM |
Ken was obviously skilled at P-B-P and his strength was deferring to Jack on strategy, familiarity with the players, etc. They were terrific.
The worst, I've thought, was Kerber and Chase. Don't get me wrong -- with the Blues, they're terrific. On their old KTRS radio show with Dutyscheyn (sp?) and Melrose, they were superb. But about Mid-States, they didn't know squat, and it was apparent in listening to them.
Just my $.02. |

| Re: The best pair was Wilson and Behan... | March 17 2008, 3:36 PM |
I like the syrup comeback ........... but of course he was a homer, he wasn't a national boadcaster, he worked for the Blues. Jack Buck was a homer, that is expected for a local broadcasters. Joe Buck on the other hand works for Fox as a national broadcaster therefore he can't be a homer unless he is doing a local broadcast. |

All I know is that if I hear John Kelly screech "thank you, thank you, thank you!" one more time I will toss my lunch.
Then again the Blues would need to score a goal to tempt him into saying it.

Where did those two guys go that worked for Jack Gamble on the old telecasts?
Harry was a big horndog that kept talking about how cute the cheerleaders were and his buddy did a pretty good job too.
They weren't bad. |

Anyone that thinks Ken Wilson was good is just as stupid as the guy who doesn't know about Behan getting exposed as the shameless self promoting webmaster of the old youth N54 site. Go to http://www.network54.com/Forum/520401/thread/1182658239/last-1205018061/Deep+Thoughts+By+Jack+Behan
and read the entire thread. | |
