If MidStates does not change the playoff system to even the playing field why don't the public schools who do have boundries to get their players from form their own league.

That might shake things up......

Great idea! You can start a new league and play for a championship; maybe call it the "Wickenheiser Cup", because it would just be like the system we have now. Dumb idea, sorry.

How great an idea, what do you think would happen to CBC if the public schools did that. They need the public schools more than we need CBC. Got a good comeback for that.

mvcha has gone to 1a and 2a tiers to level the playing field. why can't mid-states do the same and just designate 1a, 2a, 3a etc. base your season schedule and playoffs on past peformance and place teams accordingly. if you improve you move up a tier.

um, no your wrong jack hole. he probably means being in a tier the whole season. not ending up in a certian tier, on the way you preform during the season.

It's not bad in every case, but the same people have been running midstates since the 70s. Not a chance you will get any new ideas inacted.

MidStates will not change, so either deal with it or don't play. But who knows, maybe we'll get lucky and won't have to drive all the way out to St. Charles and they can make their own "all star" league.

I'd rather drive to st chuck then down to affton with all the farm animals there. And I am not talking about the ones outside.

I'm tired of everyone on here crying about cbc and the metro schools, yes they are very talented and have a lot of "elite" players but the players get to pick where they want to go to high school their 8th grade year. if you dont like the highschool hcoeky system then dont have your kid play high school hcokey have him play chesterfield or something

yea I can see that. When you are on top, it's easy to look down on everyone else. I'm patient though, and your day will come.

How about we change the playoffs to a 1 game series BUT have a losers bracket so you have to lose twice...maybe then somebody else can get to the finals to play CBC.....

The games would be more exciting because every night could be do or die and sometimes the best team doesn't always win a one game series...

That would help get someone to the big game but they would still most likely end up facing CBC.

Need to level the playing field by limiting the elite players on each private school team.

Oakville proved a few years ago that CBC can be beat in a game series...

I agree and I can see that CBC can be beat. My point is, how many teams will they eliminate along the way because they recruit all the good players in the area to come to their school. If you level the playing field then everyone would have a chance.

Re: Replace MidStates

So the private schools can pull players from the entire St Louis region and keep the very best for their rosters. The public schools are limited to only players that live in their school districts. If they can't find 16 kids that own skates they might get a pool player from a "blind" draft. He might help-he might not. They try to recruit beginners so they have the numbers to survive while the private schools lure their elite players away. The public schools get nothing in return. This is fair?

Limit the private schools total number of elite players . At the same time let the public schools pick pool players up to 23. Let them recruit these players from schools that don't have teams. If you cut any kid that goes to your school you don't get any pool players. This would build JV teams and strengthen organizations.

NOBODY CAN BE AS DUMB AS YOU

March 5 2008, 1:28 AM

You suggest by not cutting JV benders who will possible sustain serious injuries makes a program stronger and builds a good organization. Youth hockey is to be fun, I grant you that... But the next priority must be player safety. Some of these kids are not mentally or physically prepared to get hit by some 220 pound senior wanna be hockey player (who actually excels at football) who is designated swing or JV. Mid States allows up to 3 senior players on a JV roster, so don't think this has not happened before. I guess you really are that dumb, I hope you get the prize you want in the next box of Cracker Jack that you eat.

CBC, you are digging deep to justify your unfair advantage or a solution to fix the system. Just keep beating your chest and claiming greatness and fairness. Be brave and help to level the playing field instead of cowering at the though of fair recuiting. You stand on a false legacy.

So how is this different than any other sport? Oh wait a minute, it's not. The public schools are getting sick and tired of getting their asses beat in other sports too. That's why there was all the talk about splitting the catholic schools from the public schools for high school playoffs. Hockey is no different than the other sports except maybe the number of whiners.

I don't know what the answer is, but it's not to make 14 year old kids choose between going to the school they want to attend and playing high school hockey.

Maybe the answer is to split the Catholic schools so that they have their own playoff. The real problem with that is that the public schools would still never have their true championship. It would be perceived the same way that the Wick is perceived.

The true competitors in public school hockey (see Kirkwood) want to win a championship under the current environment and would be embarrased to make arguments similar to the ones that are being posted on this site.

Great idea but what about the other Catholic/private schools that don't do recruit? St. Mary's, Whitfield, and Duchesne. The big 5 cut more players from their JV then all three of those schools have in their entire programs.

I understand the difference between these Catholic schools and the big 5, but again, how is this different than any other high school sport? The schools that you mentioned can't compete with any of the big 5 in any of the other major sports.
