Speaking from first hand experience, John Murray would be an absolutely perfect fit. I can guarantee you that he would have Desmet on top year in and year out. He can out coach and out work anybody out there right now, hands down. |

Dumb Bumb is a house coach at best. He would be clueless at Desmet. If you want to improve your program I would keep looking for a coach. |

| Re: Desmet coaching status | March 16 2008, 6:52 PM |
Are you kidding. Murry would know more than you think. He did win a couple of championships when he was there before. If you look at the talentless level at Lindberg, and he was able to compete for the challege cup year after year, you have to believe he could take a talented roster that Desmet has every year and compete with CBC for the title. As far as losing to FHC, they outplayed and out shot them silly. Hummes either played great, or as usual, Lindberg was short on a talented player to get them over the hump. Hey Desmet fans, are you reading, Murry would do well as your replacement. |

He has obligations at his job, that is why he left Lindbergh. |

i dont understand why chuck would leave... he never has to go to practices... goes to some games... gets paid and then takes a 1 in 10 chance of winning a state championship... appears to be free money for him... why would he leave? |

| Re: Desmet coaching status | March 17 2008, 2:56 PM |
6:52 is exactly correct. This guys is a phenominal coach and motivator. You will not do any better then John Murray. Furthermore, his players would run through walls for him. With Desmet's level of talent, he will beat up on all of Midstates...no question. Also, contrary to a previous post, he is in play here. |

the only question is.....Will the board quit messing around and get rid of Charlie and save the schools respect.
If not then who is at fault? Not "C"...he's skating litterally all the way to the bank. I would be better off going to a snake oil salesman and have my property appraised. |

Are the players on Desmet fully commited to Desmet? Or is it like it is around the rest of league, where H.S. hockey is their 2nd team? |

Absolutely. Anybody familiar with the program would know that. You obviously are not associated with the program. Of the three players who "left" early, two got booted because they were more interested in themselves than any team they played for. their other team happened to have a coach who made rules and enforced them from the very start. Miller lost those two when they first started playing at DeSmet and he had no clue how to nip their attitude problems in the bud. The third who "left" early was excellent when he chose to play as part of a team; was terrible when he tried to be a one man act, and like the other two he took ridiculous penalties.
The one obviously not committed to the team was the head coach.
Or is it like it is around the rest of league, where H.S. hockey is their 2nd team?
Can't speak for the rest of the league, and it is easy to say that you can't either, can you? But if you do not realize that the better high school teams are the teams whose players have developed and continue to develop because they are playing for their AA, CS, Jr. B/A, AAA teams, then you really do not have a grip on today's youth hockey in St. Louis.
The better way to say it, is that there a many DeSmet players who are two-team players, and they want both of their teams to be as competitive as possible. That is the case with most high school and youth teams.
You should really think about it and know the situation before you question the commitment of DeSmet hockey players or, for that matter, most of the players in Metro and the other divisions. They all want to play their best, and win as much as ever. That can be quite a challenge with a disinterested coach.
But this thread is dead for 08-09. There will be no change.

Its all Scary and this will haunt DeSmet for years down the road as these young players become successful Alumni with horrible memories of their high school hockey coach.
When asked for donations what do you think they will do? Open up the wallets???? possibly take another chance of re living the great experience by sending their kids there?? I don't think so...
This is costing DeSmet thousands and possibly millions down the road..... |

Nobody really know's but Chuck. C'mon people, lets put some pressure on the Alum's and make a decision on what direction the team should pursue. All Chuckie has to do is tell the board that he plans to stay or leave. How hard is that?

Dear alum:
If you and other alumni wish to contact members of the board, they are:
Fred Niedbalski--presumptive president
Larry Hoagland--presumptive vice president
Greg Atkinson--treasurer
Steve Troll--registrar
John Simpson--at large
Bill Heoynck--at large
CM is not going to take himself out unless he moves out of state. The board is not going to do it. Like congress, there's too much lethargy to get enough votes. But enough of us with kids in the program are wanting change. Unlike Obama, we know what specific change is needed--a dedicated varsity coach.
Best of luck on the ole' campaign trail. Now, I have to get back to the press conference.

Thanks for your help 4:49. I will take up this charge. I am a very proud alum who won two state titles at DeSmet. I left the area several years ago. However, I have remained a close supporter and I have friends very close to the program who help keep me in the loop. The reports I have from them, what I see on this forum, and my own homework all have me very discouraged. It is clear that it is time for a change. Furthermore, there are a couple of outstanding candidates very interested in this position waiting in the wings. I will see what I can do. Any further support and information would be appreciated.

Why you chauvinistic piglet! How dare you presume it takes a dad to be disappointed with the coach!! You are abviously a Charlienista, and my administration will feature programs to end your funding.
If I were to become president I would ask the hard questions--just HOW MANY practices did the varsity head coach obtain, and what did he develop in the way of NEW DRILLS for his players, and why would he not tell his parents he would NOT SHOW UP for practices and games, and WHEN exactly DID HE KNOW it? And in my new cabinet there will be real change.
As part of my campaign, I call upon my fellow members of congress, and reach out to those on both sides of the aisle, even Sen. Arlen Specter and Sen. Foghorn Leghorn, to call the man and his "istas" before the committee for some answers.

Why is it ok for players to miss practices & games for other teams they play on? Oh yeah, it is making them better players, but it is not ok when a coaches livelihood dictates when he can be there. I agree a coach should be dedicated,so should the players, it is not fair to the ones that are there 100% of the time. I doubt any of the coaches at desmet are there for the $$$$. |
