had 2 recently at Affton...Midget Major a few years
ago, and Pee Wee Major last year. Certainly congrats
are in order, but lets not act like this is a first

When the Junior Olympics were here in St. Louis in 2004 for roller hockey at Queeny Park I couldn't tell you how many people were watching. The ice rink was converted over. The stands were full. It ended up being a rematch of the NARCH finals in which Parkway South won then to see Oakville beat South in the Junior Olympics. Not to mention when NARCH regionals are held every year, the rinks are jammed packed with people watching. Now, take that, and think about what NARCH Nationals are every year? Ya, I think there are just the same amount of people watching ice nationals as there is roller. BTW, I think almost every kid that comes out of St. Louis and is playing D1 college or drafted into the NHL has played roller hockey and has won a national championship. Take Maroon for example, he said in an interview "Roller Hockey greatly helped his game." It's not a joke and never will be a joke. St. Louis is a roller hockey city not an ice. Get it right.

Roller hockey can certainly develop individual
skills such as stickhandling, but it will NEVER
compare to Ice Hockey. Most kids play Roller
Hockey just for the fun of it. I doubt many kids
will say they got into Roller Hockey to win a
National Championship, or that growing up they
dreamed of a Roller Hockey National Championship.
Now, winning any type of National Title is a tre-
mendous accomplishment, but a Roller Hockey National
Championship simply can not be compared to winning
a National Championship in Ice Hockey.

Sorry but I am going to have to disagree. I think it is a very good thing for hockey in general. It is doing nothing but promoting the sport. It seems that the only coverage hockey gets is at the NHL level, any time you hear any thing on the news about youth or HS hoceky is all negative. So you can try to put a negative spin on this all you want but this is nothing but a good thing for youth hockey ...... and I am an Affton parent.

like they have won before. We are constantly sending
teams to Regionals and Nationals. While we may not
win every year, we at least send teams most of the time.
More than I can say about other organizations in our
area. We don't have to brag about our accomplishments,
we do it enough to come to expect it.

I think the sports plus segment on the Chesterfield Falcons was very well done. Maybe a little more attention to youth hockey will help promote hockey in the St.Louis area. I think its a win win for all St.louis hockey clubs.

Trust me, St. Louis Hockey is getting to be very
well known. If it was 10 years ago, then yes, maybe
a tv spot helps, but we have had many National Winners
in the last 5 years or so. Congratulations are in
order for sure, but lets remember that this isn't the
first title we have had here. We have had numerous kids
go Div. 1 college, and a few have been drafted into or
are playing in the NHL. I think St. Louis has opened the
eyes of alot of people in the "hockey hotbed" parts of
the country, and this has been happening for a while now,
its not just starting now.

Any body that would come on here and knock a program because they were featured on a sports program about winning a national sports title has some serious issues.

If any of you think that Affton would turn down a chance to be featured on Sports Plus after winning at Nationals then they must be serving something else in that Busch Light down on Gravois.

1:02am I switched to Affton because of some issues that
are obviously none of your business. I'm not saying that
everyone at Chesterfield were causes for me to switch, there
were some great people there that I miss. Unfortunately, we
experienced some issues that we haven't had at Affton yet,
thank god. There is no need to get smart either. When I say
we have gotten used to winning, I don't mean only winning
Nationals, I mean the entire package. Here is a brief summary:
Midget Major CS National Champs a few years ago, Missouri state
Champ/Rep numerous and too many times to count the last 7 or 8
seasons. Midget Minor CS no National titles yet, but again, numerous
State Tiltles, Regional, and national appearances. Bantam Major CS
no National titles, close this year, but numerous State titles,
constantly representing Missouri at Regionals, and advancing to
Nationals. Pee Wee Major CS A National Championship last season,
Missouri State Champ this season, numerous Regional/National
appearances. I think you get the point. I like to be modest, and
not brag, but you asked for it. You see, we are used to winning at
Affton, I'm happy for the CF Midgets, but we are used to winning all
the time at Affton, so we don't have to brag, we come to expect it.
Now don't come on here saying that I don't like to brag but thats what
I'm doing, cause 1:02am asked for it. We could have left it alone.

My family has been involved with Affton hockey for 13 years, and I am very proud of our organization, however I don't get this chest thumping you are doing. Chesterfield won Nationals this year and I am very happy for them. My son has played with or against all of the guys on the C-field team and they are good guys. Winning a National Championship is a great thing for youth hockey in St. Louis, no matter which organization wins it. Why do you feel so insecure that you have to continually list Affton's accomplishments?

9:29 and 11:26, You are both tools. STL has been competing on a national level since the 80's and before. Building power teams in the last 10 years, however, has enable STL to chase the national championships on an annual basis, where as before it was tougher to get all the top kids on one or two teams. There was some very good talent coming out of STL 25 years ago, and to say otherwise is insane (and if you were around to see STL hockey 25 years ago, you would know).

STL just has gotten better in the last 10 years at consolidating top talent on to a handfull of teams. Whether you are playing at Affton or CHA, your team is made up of kids from the whole area so really you are playing for STL (and not the organization.....even though the organization leaders what you to beleive and act otherwise).

This past year an oddity occured..... more talent flocked to CHA's midget team then Affton's. Hence CHA had a better season. Both organizations can still be proud of their accomplishment(Affton for it past, CHA for this season), but if the rest of the county was as good at colidating their talent as STL is, then STL would have just as much trouble winning nationla championships today as 25 years ago.

affton has been around way longer get the point the people running CHA are doing a better job they won a national championship in 13 years affton took 30 and CHA sent a team to nationals 8 years after it was started. and i have a national championship ring does anyone who plays for afftons midget teams.

Really, this is a stupid conversation, both the Affton and CHA Midget Central States programs are made up of players from all over the Metro and both sides of the River....Neither organization can take full credit for the Midgets success...it is all up to the players and Coaches.

If anybody deserves any credit for winning titles at the Midget level, love him or hate him, it's Sean H., nobody talked or cared about Midget hockey in STL before he got it going and we started CSDHL. The options were Jr. Blues/High School. Club Midget hockey was a joke, some clubs still do not even have teams at Midget AA.

The CHA team should be proud, but CHA the organization can't take a whole lot of credit other than bringing in Middlebrook. CHA was hardly a blip on the map when these kids started playing hockey, and certainly did not develop them from LTP up...Affton has players from other clubs too, so I am not bashing CHA...

Very good post. I think this all got started when
someone started acting like this was the first ever
NATIONAL Title in St. Louis. Then the Affton people
were like, hey we've one two National Titles in the
last three years, and then the Chesterfield people
were like, so what the pee-wee one doesn't count
(obviously it does) and we won our Midget title
sooner than you, and on and on and on. Lets be happy
for all of our National Championship winners, because
as the previous post explains, most of the teams are
made up of kids from all over(open districts) Its
doubtful that even half of the kids on the National
winners were originally from that orginazation.

There were several players on the CHA team that were there when the rink opened or shortly thereafter, but like any good CS team they supplimented from here and there. I do think that Lindsay deserves most of the credit. As you can see from other threads on this site his players are a pretty goofy bunch. Not much in the way of Ivy League potential, but there is that "free ride" offered by Wisconsin to O'Neil.
