This Survival Forum is for the discussion of all topics related to Wilderness Survival and Survival after TEOTWAWKI. I see this as a place for hunters, hikers, campers and backpackers to come together with more hardcore survivalists to learn from each other. Feel free to discuss anything pertaining to Skills, Gear, Kits, Tools, Weapons, Reloading, Communications, Tactics, Preparedness and Survivalism. I do ask that you refrain from posting Political/Patriotic threads. This is because I want this to be a place for LEARNING for experienced people as well as novices. I find that the political/patriotic threads take away from real learning. Not to mention, there are plenty of places on the net to discuss those matters elsewhere. I want you to have fun here and learn! :)

At a workshop recently I heard of a hiker who has written a book about his experience of being alone for 5 days with his arm caught under a boulder. He tells the story of how he survived. Please tell me his name and the name of his book. Thanks.

Impatient Hiker Saws Arm Off After Being Trapped Under Rock 10 Minutes SEATTLE--Mark Swinton, 32, a hiker, was lost in the woods of upstate Washington when he took a fall and ended up with his left arm trapped under a boulder. He waited for someone to discover him for around ten minutes, then lost patience and sawed it off.
“When I fell down the side of the mountain, I tried to grab on to a big boulder on the way. Unfortunately, the boulder came loose and ended up pinning my arm down. So I was stuck on the side of the mountain with this huge rock on top of me. I didn’t know what to do.”
Swinton says that he was holding out hope that a fellow hiker would stumble upon him and rescue him, but hope faded after a few minutes, and he knew what he had to do.

Greetings Fellas! (And gals too, if there are any here.)
"Ranger Rick" here from The Ranger Digest.Com (www.therangerdigest.com). Because I'm retired military and live here in Italy, I'm probably the only one up and online right now.
Well after receiving an inventation or two (e-mails) from some of your members here asking me to com'on by, join the club and chat about some of my outdoor/survival tips, tricks & ideas that are listed on my site. Well, here I am and don't know where to begin, start and or if everyone here is really interested in my outdoor/survival tips or not.
And so it would be easier if ya all just logged onto my site (www.therangerdigest.com) and then ask me which tip you wanna know more about.
Which by the way two things....
1) I'll soon be posting about a half dozen more "unusal" outdoor survival tips on my site. And so if you wanna know what they are, I suggest you log onto it from time-to-time to see what they are. Which I guarantee you'll love and will probably use some of'em too. And if you don't, no problem, let me know why.
2) Until December 25th I'm running a Christmas Special on some of my products, 20% Off. So if you're interested - don't snooze too long or ya just might lose out of this deal.
Well thanks to those few fellas who invited me to come join this forum, looks mighty interesting here. So take care for now and I hope everyone has a Merry, Merry Christmas, God bless.

Dear Forum Readers,I am the Outdoor Skills editor of Field&Stream. A couple years ago I got turned around in the woods and had to spend an unexpected night in sub-zero weather. I am putting together a feature for the February issue of F&S, consisting of stories about other hunters (and fishermen) who have faced survival situations (hypothermia, broken bones, fang and claw, thirst, etc,)plus what they learned from the experience and would like to pass on to readers. If you are interested in contributing, I'd like to talk to you. Please respond here, or, preferably, through email at kmccafferty@montanadsl.net or call me at 406-587-8380 and I will call you right back. I'd appreciate your help. Sincerely, Keith McCafferty
Hello! I'm from Dayton, Ohio. I've got a group of friends and family around here who have a significant interest in preparedness, autonomy, and survival. We (along with some folks in Alabama) thought it might be interesting to network with other groups around the globe, perhaps have an email newsletter we can all communicate through. We can share experiences and ask questions through a rankless forum. In addition, if our world turns upside down, it might be handy to know decent folks who know what's going on in different areas (via ham radio and such)!
If you are interested, email me at redbladerising@yahoo.com
Thanx for your attention!

If anybody is reading this, I'll be quite surprised. Just tried to get into the Cabin, and something weird is going on. I try to enter the new forums, and I get a message that the fourms have moved, and the address given is to the front page of the new site, with the picture of the ramshackle cabin. Try to enter the new forums, get the same message. A paranoid indiviual might think we were hacked by some petty-minded type who was the subject of some not-very-kind postings here recently. Oh, well, I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
On my first impression here, my computer security filters are finding all kinds of web bugs and one-pixel spies on this site. The Plainsman's Cabin site sounds like a neat place with fine intentions and I'm having fun looking at it, but this message board leaves a little to be desired. Maybe we could suggest a change of board format to the webmaster? I'm NOT trying to plug myself, but for an example of an alternative come check out our "Savage 24" board:
Disc server will let you create your own free discussion board and you can call it "The Plainsman's Cabin" or whatever else you like. Again, I mean no offense and do not mean to criticize, this is just an alternative suggestion. Thanks for the cool survival site,
Suuuuuure they will. That's what they said yesterday, and still nothing is up. Or those that are up, you can't post.
I feel sorry of the owners of these boards who have to pay Slowzboards to have a good place to chat.
