You've lost me on this point.

The 4in gun was a specialized design (albeit obsolescent) intended for naval use on destroyers and submarines. The US never had 4in "land artillery" gun. Unless you are thinking of the USN 5in/38 dual purpose gun which was standard on US destroyers in WW2.
