Response to Re: M.S. Tegelberg before 1942
I have a letter from my uncle Stan written aboard MS Tegelberg in September 1945. She was bringing back troops who like Stan had been prisoners of war in the notorious Japanese camps in Burma. His letter tells how the ship left Colombo on 20th September, calling at Port Said on 30 Sept. Stan had suffered terribly in the camp and spoke of the kindness and care shown by the crew of the Tegelberg. The letter was to his mother who, unknown to him, had died before he reached England.
