Response to M. S. Bloemfontein

Hi Jacques,

As you probably know, the MS Bloemfontein served as an 'Immigrant Ship' for a number of years from late 1951. She was part of the 'Holland-Afrika Lijn' and during her time as an 'Immigrant Ship', the ports of call were from Amsterdam via Southampton, down the west coast of Africa to Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, East London, Durban, Lorenco Marques and Beira, where it turned around for the return trip.

My parents were 'Immigrants' on the MS Bloemfontein in early 1952. I have the original tickets and documentation for the 'Bloemfontein'. They were fortunate enough to experience the tri centenary celebrations of the arrival of Jan van Riebeeck in the Cape ( in Cape Town in 1952). The 'Bloemfontein' had experienced engine troubles and was in the Cape Town harbour for repairs. They ended their journey when they disembarked in Beira.
