I think the idea that Dutch PoWs were singled out for harsher treatment beacuse of the failure of secret high-level diplomatic discussions is a bit fanciful. I dont think the Korean guards on the Railway were closely following those exchanges. Also, Gavan Daws in Prisoners of the Japanese, says the Dutch had the highest survival rates of Allied PoWs.
