Arnout,
Sorry forgot. You should really read Part 2 of my Het Verlies van Java, which describes in detail all air support matters including the planning of air support for Doorman. This not only concerned ML and USAAF aircraft (planned by Ops Staff JAC in coordination with the staff of Helfrich) but also the planning and execution of recce sorties by RecGroup of JAC (with a MLD and US Navy staffing) with MLD and US Navy flying boats. The max available number of flying boats was send up! Doorman did not lose his eyes at all, he gained extra eyes in the ABDA structure. The communications problems were largely a matter of the KM, see my book. Please do not keep repeating Helfrich's nonsense. The allied fighters only took care of the air superiority during the day fight. Best,
Peter
