I did some digging through some of the wartime diaries of Minister Jhr. van Lidth de Jeude.
Interestingly there was a bid of rivalry between Furstner and Helfrich. While Helfrich was promoted to LADM after being ordered to Ceylon, Furstner had apparently opposed both these moves. It certainly is not obvious in Memoires.
A year later, Helfrich was almost made Minister of Navy in London, when Furstner had irked the wrath of the Queen. Her special adjudant, RADM Baron C. de Vos van Steenwijk, reiterated on March 4, 1943, that the entire navy would welcome Furstner's and Termijtelen's removal and that sentiments had been made known to HM.
In London, Helfrich was much more respected all in all.
