Redesignated the XSOC-1 on March 23, 1935, probably to avoid confusion with the SOC's would-be successor.

Also probably not kosher to include this aircraft in the final production number, as a couple of other experimental aircraft were offshoots of regular production types, also not counted. I say for production aircraft, USN 322; USCG 3.

From what I've read, the first SON-1 aircraft was completed in 1939, with the most of the order done in 1940. For example, see
