Response to IJN DDs that rescued HMAS Perth survivors

Thanks for all your help with this.

There certainly were IJN Destroyers in Sunda Strait on 1st March 1942

I have a copy of an official interview with survivors in Sept 1945 which refers to the group of PERTH survivors who were in Sunda Strait and found a lifeboat from one of the sunken Japanese merchant ships. They gradually filled the boat with men but at 0900 on the 1st March an IJN destroyer approached and ordered the boat alongside and took the occupants onboard.
From the narrative it appears the destroyer stood by while the boat made several trips to rescue more survivors. At about noon the destroyer departed the scene with a total of 188 survivors and left the lifeboat still picking up more men.
The rescued party was transferred to two other destroyers and conveyed to Bantam Bay where they arrived at 1900. They were then transferred to the Somedong Maru
We have discounted Inazuma and Ikaduchi as being involved.

The mystery remains.
