Response to Try "Lem Voalan"

Thanks Jacques!

My question arose from the following quote by the skipper, Lt. Cmdr. Fitzgerald, excerpted from the book Presumed Lost (by Stephen Moore); "I noticed, coming from the northwest out of Lem Valon Strait, a ship which at the time appeared to me to be a large destroyer or small cruiser. Shortly thereafter I noticed smoke from a patrol or escort vessel to the southeast."

His surfaced boat was already so badly damaged (inc. no propulsion) from the previous days engagements that they could not fight back, so scuttled the boat / abandoned ship as the Jap ships approached closer.

If the above quote is correct then it would put the sunken sub to the southeast and closer to Phuket in what would appear to be shallower water than where she supposedly sank (approx 90m / 300ft and well to the southwest of Phuket).

PS. As for the pos given on the Wrecksite website, we searched in that area some years ago and she ain't there, or at least we didnt find her. sad.gif
