Response to Cmdr. Thomas Howell Binford,
I met Capt Crouch in 1943 after my family and I moved to Fairlington, VA. He was on duty in Washington DC. He and his wife lived in a duplex adjacent to our apartment building. He asked my dad why I wasn't in the service. After Capt Crouch was informed that I was 12, his apologizes led to our friendship. After his death, his wife favored me with his khakis and his pipe with a 1921 silver inlay. She said he was involved with delivering the a-bomb triggering device, the reason he was returning to the US. He was a good friend of the Indianapolis' Captain.
