Response to Re: Way forward

Thanks Nelson,

W15, 16, 17 and 18 were at Tarakan and Balikpapan.

Combinedfleet's TROMs say this about them later on (I assume it means from a certain date onwards):

W18:
19 February 1942:
Supports the seizure of Java.

W17:
13 February 1942:
Supports the seizure of Surabaya, Java.

W16:
24 February 1942: Operation "J" - The Invasion of Java, Netherlands East Indies:
W-16 escorts a convoy and sweeps mines in support of the Java campaign.

W15:
24 February 1942: Operation "J" - The Invasion of Java, Netherlands East Indies:
W-15 escorts a convoy and sweeps mines in support of the Java campaign.

W7 and 8 were at Ambon, among other minesweepers that appear not to have participated in the Java campaign. The W7 class looked more than the others (but to our eyes vaguely) like DDs with those 3 12cm guns behind shields among other things.

25 February 1942:
W-7 and W-8 depart Kendari escorting a convoy to Surabaya, Java.

Noteworthy: W7 had a Cdr change in March 42, does anybody know why?

"March 1942: Lt (later Cdr, posthumously) Yoshinaga Gen (61) assumes command from Lt (later LtCdr) Masumitsu Yukitaka (60)."

Please note that I am not suggesting anything at this point nor am I accusing anybody!

BTW, W5 appears to have been in the western parts of the Java Sea all the time.
