      Thanks for the perceptive comment. In truth, I did not intend to describe all six Merchant Marine DSM awards for the action aboard STEPHEN HOPKINS as posthumous.

      After I posted my comments, I found this website listing the citations for the U.S. Merchant Marine Distinguished Service Medals awarded during World War II:
