      Tom--

No need to do any 'truncating' at all. Van Mook's book isn't too easy to find, unfortunately.

I have done quite a lot of research on this matter for some time, from various sides, including the Japanese [as well as American and British "help" etc.], in addition to deeper investigations into the Imperial Navy's oil situation through Japanese sources, so nothing you posted about the Economic Missions is news to me--far from it.
I really DO appreciate your efforts, though.

However, I am interested in Ota for separate reasons, so perhaps should make clear that his presence in the Economic Mission is of only ancillary importance. I did manage to locate a contemporary Dutch newspaper article from Java which shows him, but it is of very poor quality.

Thanks again, or muchas gracias, as we say in Texas,

      MthW/dk
