"This report is designed to cover, in a brief, non-technical manner, the significant aspects of the petroleum economy of Java and the islands adjacent to the east and such facilities connected therewith as existed prior to the war. It also covers the possibilities of production of petroleum in Java as a source of supply after reoccupation by the United Nations."

A dedicated issue of Command Magazine, Issue 45, October 1997, contains a number of articles on the war in the NEI in early 1942, including one on petroleum production, viz.:

Paul S. Burdett, Jr. “Indonesian Oil: Japan’s Grab for Gas”, pp. 28–31.

Also in the same issue:

Brad Martin, “Forgotten Fleet: The U.S. Asiatic Fleet 1941–42”, pp. 20–26.
Brad Martin, “Last Act in the Dutch East Indies: The Defense of Java February–March 1942”, pp. 34–40.
William Scheck, “The Author and the Admiral”, pp. 78–87. The author is Hector Bywater, who wrote The Great Pacific War, and the admiral his putative disciple, Isoruku Yamamoto.

Good reads for the most part.
