Yet another "Birther" lie is that Obama must not be an American citizen because he could not have travelled to Pakistan in 1981 on an American passport. The claim is that he could not have done so because the State Department had a travel ban in effect for Pakistan at that time.

The problem is that the claim he could not have travelled to Paksitan on an American passport is simply a flat out bald faced lie. Pakistan was not on a "no travel" list in 1981 and the State Department never creates any such list. Pakistan was on a travel advisory that warned Americans about certain risks of travelling there but did not forbid Americans from doing so. In fact in 1981 the State Department issued a travel advisory advising Americans on certain additional steps in visa requirements for travelling to Pakistan.

If the State Department is telling Americans how to get a visa to travel to Pakistan it is clear that there was no prohibition against doing so. As explained in the snopes article linked below, Americans did travel to Pakistan on American passports and wrote about doing so.

Just stumbled across another lie these clowns seem to like. This one claims that Obama signed Executive Order 13489 as soon as he got into office. They quote a provision in it reading as follows:

Notice Of Intent To Disclose Presidential Records

When the Archivist provides notice to the incumbent and former Presidents of his intent to disclose Presidential records pursuant to section 1270.46 of the NARA regulations, the Archivist, using any guidelines provided by the incumbent and former Presidents, shall identify any specific materials, the disclosure of which he believes may raise a substantial question of executive privilege.

They claim this provision is a means for Obama to hide his birth certificate and that was why he signed it so hurriedly after taking office. He must be hiding something, they claim.

What they are hiding is the true nature of the EO and a provision within it that makes the EO utterly irrelevant to Obama's birth certificate.

The effect of the EO is to mandate that any "Presidential Record" be released unless a specifically enumerated privilege against release is articulated. It ha the precise opposite effect these people claim as it actually creates a presumption of disclosure.

The EO is also utterly irrelevant. As the quote above indicates the EO applies only to "Presidential Records." The people behind this nonsense do not cite the EO's definition of a "Presidential Record."

The EO defines a "Presidential Record" as "those documentary materials maintained by NARA [the National Archives and Records Administration] pursuant to the Presidential Records Act, including Vice Presidential records."

Obama's Birth Certificate is not a "Presidential Record" and is therefore unaffected by the EO. His Birth Certificate is not maintained by NARA but is instead maintained by Hawaii's Office of Vital Records.
