In the movie Star Trek V movie (the one where they save the whales) Scotty bargains in late 20th Century San Franciso for some provisions needed to outfit their ship for the whales.  In exchange for the provisions he gives a contemporary engineer the formula for "transparent aluminum."  He dismisses McCoy's concern about interfering with the past by suggesting maybe that engineer invented it anyway.  It's a funny scene:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzRziK-kZtQ

Well now scientists have been able to create (very temporarily) a kind of transparent aluminum.  It's actually an exotic state of plasma matter created by energy x-rays, but that's what scientists are calling it.
