GAMBLER LOSES BID TO RECOVER MONEY FROM CASINO
Friday, September 25, 2009

A gambler who sued to try to recover nearly $675,000 in losses from a Detroit casino has thrown the courtroom equivalent of snake eyes.

A judge says a 19th-century Michigan law that appears to allow people to recover gambling losses doesn't apply to casinos. He threw out a lawsuit Friday filed against MotorCity Casino.

Wayne County Circuit Judge Michael Sapala says the law applies to illegal gambling, not legal gaming.

Italo Mario Parise says MotorCity Casino had a duty to stop him from rolling up losses for nearly a decade. His lawyer, Frank Cusumano Jr., discovered the old law.

Cusumano says he's considering an appeal. Casino attorney Deborah Brouwer is asking the judge to order Cusumano to pay her legal fees.
