Early this week, two paintings by Pablo Picasso valued around $66 million dollars were stolen, Paris police confirmed.
The works were taken from the Paris apartment of Diana Widmaier Picasso, granddaughter of the famous painter. The burglars stole the paintings while two people were in the apartment sleeping.
The stolen Picassos are "Maya à la poupée," which represents Maya, Picasso, and Marie-Thérèse Walter’s daughter, dated 1938; and a portrait of Jacqueline, Picasso’s second wife, dated 1961.
According to the family’s representative, Paul Lombard, the Maya painting was stolen in its frame while the second painting was cut out.
Investigators have found no signs of a break in. These two well known paintings have always been owned by the family and have had the necessary safety precautions taken, according to Lombard.
