I'm trying to figure out how much $ I will need to retire comfortably in the P.I. - Camotes?
Home-1/2 hectacre-Ocean front, 2,000 sqft, A/C, 4 bedroom, 1,000 sq ft work shed, fence, screened porch, washing machine, electric water, sewage, boat, car/bike, internet, electricity, schooling for 10 yr old, taxes, water/electric bill, internet.

Or any other expenses I might not have thought of.

Can someone give me a breakdown of the costs?

Big house on the beach

September 8 2008, 8:09 AM

First of all, a big 4 bedroom house on the beach could accomodate many peoples... 10, 12, 15 perhaps more ??? It is an open invitation for the whole familly to move in with you and your spouse. Do you really want that?

Living on the beach is unrealistic on Camotes, I presume that all the best parcels are allready occupied or simply not for sale. Best is to leave that option to resorts, unless you want to have vendors of all sorts knocking on your door all day long.
Patrick has chosen the high hills, because there, he is far away from bustle and hassle of lower grounds.

If you look through this web site you will find how much Patrick has spent on building his house.
Not much... but again he loves his life style and the small amount he has spent on building the house is meaningless to him. Happiness is what counts in life, and he seem to be very happy there.

Not that Much

September 10 2008, 10:58 AM

The biggest cost will be the land, Labor is very cheap, We just had a sea wall put in for about 9k
its 10 feet tall 6 feet in width and approx 140 ft in length,, for your reference.

We have 2 kids in the Korean school in San Fran area with bus fare about 400 us a year and they teach in english.

Send me an email and I can get more info to you My wife takes care of all budgeting, waterfront
land is available but the people need to know you before they will let it go,, famous saying
cash talks BS walks

We have 14 people living there right now costs us about 500 us a month with internet, electric
Water.

Wonderful People if you go with the right attitude

Robert is correct if you have 2k sq ft you'll meet family you did not know existed, they'll
come for the party and never leave

Have a good one

The big house on the beach

September 10 2008, 1:48 PM

Thank you Walt for confirming what I already know from simply reading the comments of many foreigners living in the Philippines.
I am stil living in Canada but am contemplating to move there by the end of next year. That is why your comments or other foreigner's comments are very valuables to me.
I have learned many lessons without ever being there, thank you all.
I wonder if you live there with the ''extended'' familly or you live somewhere else?
When you say San Fra, does it mean S.F. in Camotes?

I myself also find this 4 room house and a lot in Cagcagan

September 20 2008, 3:41 AM

Kumusta! I did find this house and a lot in Cagcagan also..it has been for
sale allmost a year? First time I did see this in January 2008 when visited
Camotes. My gf sister knows the housekeeper of the owners of this house...
Seemed very interesting place for me! Then my gf said some things to change my mind as thought it all. The situation..it`s very isolated..no neighbour near (you might think it`s only good..but it can be bad also..!) If you think you don`t have a housekeeper and go away for a shopping to Poro or San Fransisco..you soon could find there had been some unwanted visitors...
I don`t mean from Camotes neighbours but with a boat from Leyte island...
Half an hour and your things are to be sold in neighbour island after the dust has landed..Also the property is going higher price now. In January the asking price was 3700000 and now coming up to 4200000. The owners have divorced..a dutch man living in Rotterdam Holland with another filipina and
the lady with an another man in Danao Phils. the phonenumber we did got is
+63909202036651 I don`t know if they use it anymore. How ever from the side
of this same real estate you can find as big LOTS about 4000m2 for a price
732240p to 1000000p !! My gf cousing build last year a house in Toledo for a
price about 350000p!! 2 bedrooms,kitchen and sala I think about 100m2 floor
Very nice build really!
I myself would prefer a bigger lot in a rural village if I know the neighbours living there good enough! I also did find a lot of 2 hectares up in hill along the small fine road with good ground and some mahogany,coco-
nut trees etc. suitable for plant vegetables etc. I heard it was 75000p !
Then the OWNER heard that some foreigner had been there looking at the place
..heheh....and suddenly the price was 750000p !! However my gf very old and wise Tatay said to me just WAITE!..... now after about 8 months they are
going to sell it for us in a price 100000p !! Next month we are going to buy this and after some years build the house suitable for us...2 rooms for
us and 1 for visitors as my kids, my gf relatives from another islands than
Camotes. (We have a saying about the fish and the visitors : "They both are
going to smell after 3 days!") I have to warn you really, if you let them stay a long time..it`s really hard to get off and have your own privacy af-
ter that, so that you are NOT going to hurt them...)
So! If you ever planning to remove to Camotes Islands you FIRST have to VISIT there! First you should get to KNOW the Island and the PEOPLE there!
I met one family there who have a real nice big house as a castle there! The
man said that in Europe he NEVER could have the same lifestyle as in Camotes
! Well, I myself wouldn`t mind this style..as having high walls around and
separating yourself from the neighbours you cannot even have FRIENDS from the FILIPINO people there. You can feel yourself very lonely living in that way! Also did heard from my gf relatives and neighbours that they wouldn`t mind to this man and his family either, as they are too proud to talk with them. Only once a week go to shopping to Poro or San Fransisco to get your
meals to your freezer...all the time spend your time in your house there with no friends there. Perhaps some time visit "people with the white face"
who you knew there.. Even you have a castle on the white sandy beach there,
but not relationships and REAL friends..you cannot be happy! "If you are at
peace with yourself - EVERY place is a home!" That`s why I HIGHLY recommend
everyone FIRST go there SPEND TIME there.....MEET the PEOPLE and if you still want build your home there..I wish you not only good luck, but ALL THE
BEST! Maybe we can meet in Camotes after some time...Take care! God bless!
