Omineca "error" spotted by BCAHA

No score for this post

My information is that this was an unfortunate error, not an attempt to cheat the system. On Jan. 11, one game, Omineca failed to check the status of a player and played an ineliigble player. BCAHA picked it up, applied discipline, reversing the result as a 1-0 Hazelton win and awardecHazelton the points. Ice coach Brian Naka was also assessed a one game suspension. But don't make a mountain out of it. It didn't really change anything except the playoff positions in the West. One point separated the last two teams, Now Terrace gets Hazelton and Kitimat plays Rampage. The CIHL is part of BCAHA and I take it as a positive that the BCAHA is paying attention and will act promptly and fairly. It is no big deal. A simple mistake...time to move on.

im new to this as a fan obviously being a rampage fan ... but seriously get over it come on give me a break. do the refs check the sheets for eligible / inineligible players or can any team just throw whoever they want on the ice and just hope the officials dont catch it?shouldn't the officials check the roster beforehand makes sense to me but again im a new fan. and really i do think it changes things a lot rupert an expansion team playing the team they have played all year (kitimat). i mean how many times can an expansion play the championship team in one year is that fair? i do think rupert is playing a lot better now a days but a terrace and rupert tilt was looking great. but its yet another series of games with kitimat. i hope the scedule is better next year.

go rampage and good luck next week

It was in your guys own hands last night...

to get the playoff series you wanted.

Frankly, although the Rampage came up a bit flat last night, some penalty kill saves by Brett Villness in the Demons' net, when Kitimat were short-handed for four continuous minutes and the last six minutes of the third period, opened the door and for the first time in the game, the Rampage responded with their best play of the night. Villness and the defense stole it from them.

Carding

Referee's dont have anyway to check that sort of information, they are there to ref the game. Omenica may have made a boo boo but that is why the BCHA gets paid the big bucks, they can spot this easily and have remedies ready at hand to deal with it if it happens. As you can see they laid down the law. As Kitimatfan put it, "Life goes on".

Carding Issue

So just out of curiosity, what exactly is a carding issue? Is this a situation where a player has played games for two CIHL teams this year? Or does it mean something else?

RE: Carding

The term "Carded" has a specific connotation and is related to how the player is registered with BCAHA and indirectly, Hockey Canada. I'm not sure what the infraction was, but it would have to relate to something like:

1. A player that isn't registered with the BCAHA;
2. A player that has already played a game for another Senior AA hockey team this season;
3. A player that is currently under a professional contract;

If this infraction was the result of a suspended player being dressed for a game, then the term "carded incorrectly" should not have been originally posted, since a suspended player would simply be an ineligible player.

I don't know what the exact reason was and had hoped that someone would clarify when I posted my question. I have a suspicion that it has to do with a player dressing for two CIHL teams this season, but that is only a guess on my part.

The bottom line is that it's happened and the punishment has been handed out. Yes, it does suck from a Rupert perspective since it affects our position. I for one would have loved to see another Terrace/Rupert game next weekend at the Jim, but it's not going to happen in the first round. Rupert had its chances, had we picked up a win against Hazelton this wouldn't even be an issue. At the same time, it wouldn't be fair to Hazelton to know that they lost a game and playoff position to a team that knowing or not dressed an ineligible player.
