Friday in Hazelton 8-7 Wolverines
A great game for the Wolverines. The packed house was still chanting 1/2 hr after the game, great fans, a deserving home opener victory.
I will give notice to every team in the league, when your playing in Hazelton you better bring your "A" game, or you will go home with a big fat "0". For most part the Wolves played with control and determination.
I can see what the big hoop-pa-la is about Curtis Cardinal, he seems to be able to keep his team mates focused, on the ice when needed, also he can pick up a point or two when needed, whether he is close to the puck or not. Everybody was lucky that the game was close, or this game would of gone way out of control, real easy.
I believe we saw The Wolves best, this weekend, and its good enough to compete with most teams.
Cody Smith, Haz Goaltender would have to be star #1, he made an incrediable amount of saves, where young Smithers Goaltending was a little shaky at times, but by end of this season, I think Steelheads goaltending will be there.
Intend to injure has to be adressed sometime soon, before we have a real serious injury in our league.
12 mins in penalties for the Steelheads and 16 mins for the Wolverines.
Saturday in Smithers 8-1 Steelheads
A Different Wolverines team showed up in Smithers.
Shots on goal in the first period, was 19-2 Steelheads and the Fish only leading 1-0. Cory Croft, Wolverines Goaltender set up a 4X8 sheet of plywood and just about stopped everything.
Two goals were disallowed by the ref, 1 for the Fish and 1 for the Wolves.
Wolverines Matt Wolfenden, Cross check to the head, ended his evening early, but lead up to one of the best Heavy weight tilts, that I have seen in awhile. Rematch #2, Brendan Hutchinson Vs Trevor Morrison. Two years ago these two tangled, with Morrison not playing another game for two years. I don't think he got off much easier this time either.
Hopefully there is a Video out there. A good toe to toe for 20 seconds, than Morrisons Knees started to buckle, Two hail Marry's from Hutch, Morrison hit the Ice and the barn shook, and it was over.
The puck drops and tilt #2, Ryan Green vs Matt Ranahan, two young guys toe to toe again, with Ryan a easy Victory. (Sorry Sandlak.)
The Wolves never got into this game.
38 mins in penalties for the Wolverines and 20 mins for the Steelheads.
Shots on Goal were 48-18 Steelheads.
