Going on the road and beating the Wolverines without Steve Wiljeto the Braves make another statement to the CIHL that they are the REAL DEAL this year. Way to go Boys we are all proud of you now win on Sunday so we will be 5-1 faceing a Houston team which will be 1-3 after this weekends play ..

( I wonder who was keeping HOuston afloat these last few Years?????)

Maybe Lefebvre or maybe the Burns Lake contingent??????

at the risk of sounding like an ungrateful Luckies fan (because I have greatly appreciated the contribution players from BL and other towns have made to the Luckies in past years), I would hardly say they kept them afloat, contributed...yes, dominated...no... except Lefevre...and as the Braves will soon find out, and already know each team will go through a tough stretch in a season, injuries, suspensions, prior committments, I would suggest to you and anyone else that is seeing these two losses from the Luckies as a sign of things to come, dont underestimate the boys from big tire town...things will come around, the wheels may be falling off a bit right now, but year after year they have proven they are a team to be reckoned with come playoff time...expect much the same this year!! Did you make the trip to Hazelton to watch the game tonight? just Steve and Matus out of the lineup tonight? See you next weekend!!

Worst team??

No score for this post
October 25 2009, 12:35 PM

I hardly think you can call Hazelton, who went into the weekend third in the west with wins over Rupert, Terrace and Smithers, the worst team in the west. You have to give them credit, they've been playing well this year. And I think Terrace still has a lock on that title until they put together some wins...

Not like they're the top team to beat though. They had a surprising start to the season and playoff run last year, but most would say that was a fluke. Come on, you can't base these teams by their first what 5-6 games going in. we'll see how it goes closer to when the regular season wraps up.

I was at the the game today and I just can't figure out what's going on with the Wolverines Coaching Staff. They had Cody Smith in net.. was doing a really good job for the team.. then in the third period they have Cory Croft in net. Every game when Cody Smith is the net minder.. Hazelton gets a win.. every game Croft is netminding.. seems the net is abandoned... not one win with Croft. Maybe Cody Smith got hurt.. who knows. Kinda puzzled by that decision. All in all the game was quite a snorefest... Reffing wasn't that great but, I've seen worse. Wolverines had a heck of a time picking up passes and just seemed to be in each others way during the game. Definitely not the same team as last week. Hoping the Wolverines can pick up their sock. Attendance at today's game was a very poor turn out... maybe the fans are getting discouraged so early in the season.

Why would they be discouraged? What are they expecting from this team? This is by far the best start to a season Hazelton has ever had. This team has never been close to a .500 team until this year.

That's a trick question isn't it Hardy? Neither goalie was hurt, one of them laid on the ice like he was shot (see Dwayne Roloson or Roberto Luongo) but amazingly, despite the horrible injury was able to get up and finish the game.

I was at the game and it was definitely Corey Croft in the net that as you said "hurt his neck in the second when one of the Weber brothers drove to the net and was bulled over". Corey Croft #33 and Cody Smith #1 and I'm pretty sure you can tell by the height difference.

Really? This is the argument amongst the wolverines fans? Who was goalie? Careful, don't get them started on one another, we now know what happens in their dressing room when the rines don't get along would hate to see what happens when their fans don't agree on something.

Who really played?

No score for this post
October 27 2009, 10:00 PM

Who really played? Ha! A lot of their local guys were missing, that's for sure. Where the heck was matthew ranahan or mitchell hobbenshield? They always contribute, but they were missing? Instead, there were some strange faces though on the ice and Cody was pulled because he got run over 3 times! He wasn't hurt but the Coaches pulled him anyway. Why he was blamed for getting run over is a mystery, I thought that's the defensemen's job right? Protect your goalie?

Oh well, not much you can do about bad coaching. Need proof? Smith hasn't lost a game this season and he still got pulled. The two new players that were also brought to play? Why bother? As far as I understand, they didn't make a lick a difference. They actually hurt the team more than help it. Also at least two of the Goals happened because of too-many-men penalties, leaving the Wolverines shorthanded. Those are coaching errors not team errors.

It's too bad really, because the Wolverines were actually having a good season and could keep winning, if their Coahes and General Manager stop messing with the roster.

By the way, aycheyejaykay, you say we all know what happens in the dressing room when players don't get along? I suppose you're one of those players? How about elaborating?

Now now. Calm down, don't get your panties in a bunch. You can call me HIJK as in my initials as, a why am I trying to explain it to you?
Now, where do I start? So many questions and you answered them all already, but I'll go with the last one you yelled specifically at me. I went by hear-say, I do admit, but it was posted in here by someone else who is supposedly a wolverines fan. They said that after the big blow out of one of their games, I think it was prince rupert? Or who did they lose to that one game? Anyway, that embarrassed fan said that they (the wolverines) fought amongst themselves in the dressing room. Go scroll thru the other posts kid. You'll find it. And who you calling a wolverine player? I am insulted! Nahh just kidding, they can be a great team. Just like you said, their coaching etc needs some fine tuning. They have the skill, they just need the discipline. They always get into penalty trouble. And all the teams know that. They need to stick with one goalie and have a stable roster. So I agree with you, stop shouting at me :)

Sorry man or madam, I wasn't tryna yell, I musta just worded it wrong or something. Yah I totally agree with you. I just wasn't understanding what was going on with the team. I think they do need to stick with one goalie too and had heard to a while back that Hazelton is a really economically stricken community, so I was wondering how they can afford to fly players in and why they do change their roster every weekend. It sounded like you knew, so I thought I'd ask you how you knew. You're right I did go back and check and it sucks that the players have to fight among each other, i always thought that was the coaches job to do that you know? Like control the players and be the bad guys so the players don't have to worry and just do what they're meant to, play hockey? No hard feelings k?

There are very few CIHL teams that don't...

No score for this post
October 29 2009, 5:22 PM

second guess themselves after a loss, or two...

And let me assure all the fans that the best of teams have some questions with coaches' choices for players and goalies from time to time. But it's always when you're not winning.... And I've seen players giving each other the glare. I tend to think it could come to fisticuffs, from time to time, without the commitment to the team concept that has to be present in a small community...

Hazelton and their fans are having some issues with the team administration...but I am confident that cooler heads will prevail and the team will put the better good of the community and the league in front of piling scarce $$$ into import players.

The Ice Demons have done it, and still do it, but a rarely with anyone who isn't a local, even if they are playing out of town. Looking back I can see some of the other teams' leading players in Demons' gear --Colt Stava, Ivan, Farkvam, Troy Butler, Trent Davies, even Burny Carlson, were all "imports" in a way with the Demons (Butler only latterly after he moved to Terrace).

In the central area with the Braves, Wolverines, Luckies and Steelheads mininbg all the seams for the best players, it's a chore and these teams are just trying to be pro-active in improving. But the rules need to be observed and players carded properly! The league may need to look into who was carded when...

Anyone looking for a position on a committee? It has perks. The secretary acts like the president with her husband coach and signs cheques with her bff the treasurer without committee approval. I'm sure you could get a cheque and not have to turn in any receipts. The GM who was fired threatened to take out all of the money from the teams account last night in a very public display at the ice arena. Can you say grand theft? The GM's son is posting crap on this forum saying that Barnes needs Smithers to help make a man out of him. The best thing Barnes could have did was leave that sinking ship that was ruined by that committee. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the teams last season in the league. Such a pity.

So, I took a break from the cihl chat for a week and a half and I come back to see the colours and formats have been changed, but more noticably it looks like there's a ton o drama in the smallest town in the cihl. I knew things never seemed to run properly with that organisation, but I think they're probably getting rid of the wrong people. Well. Let's hope they can get some people in there who can run a proper organisation for the team and fans sake and not their own. I don't think i've ever seen this much drama from any other team committee. Ha ha ha, loved that gong comment. Too true.
