for the wolverines...first they lose barnes, now it sounds like cardinal could be gone for a while, two weeks, Hazelton just lost their two best players...gonna be tough to stay off the bottom of thepower rankings this week!!

The CIHL's leading scorer, Curtis Cardinal suffered a severe laceration on his leg in a collision behind the Kitimat goal about eight minutes into the game. Medical and first aid people were there within a few minutes and he was removed to hospital on a stretcher.
The injury disheartened the Hazelton players, but they still put a good effort into the game, But with only 13 players suited up, and their leading goal-getter gone, the combination of injury and flu and all that has been happening with the Hazelton team in the past few weeks took its toll on the Red team.
Kitimat was simply too fast and too controlling for a short-handed team and rolled over fopur lines all night. It was 6-0 end of the first, 10-1 end of the second and for a weary Cody Smith and his short lineup the final was 15-1.
Let me say there were only five minor penalties in the game, Hazelton stuck to hockey -- and the game featured very little hitting...
Rick Taylor replaced Brett Vilness in net for the Ice Demons in the third period.

5) Geoff Morgan (Greg Sabey, Kyle Boudreault)
6) Jeremy Brady (Daniel Mayer, Doug Wilson)
Period 2
7) Jeff Mildenberger (Ian Coleman, Brett Vilness)
8) Ian Coleman (Jeemy Brady, Daniel Mayer)
9) Derek Wakita ((Jeff Mildenberger, Terry Whelan)
10) Geoff Morgan Daniel Mayer, Ian Coleman)
Period 3
11) Daniel Mayer (unassisted)
12) Jonnie Aiken (Jeff Mildenberger)
13) David Venman (Blaine Markwart, Jeff Mildenberger)
14) Derek Wakita (unassisted)
15) Ian Coleman (Jeremy Brady, Daniel Mayer)
Mitch Hobensheid scored unassisted for the Wolverines.
Cody Smith played the whole game.

First aiders, firefighters and emergency medics did a great job last night in Kitimat when Hazelton Wolverines player Curtis Cardinal was severely cut.
Great care was taken, after a very prompt response by the ambulance services, to check blood pressure and conditions before the player was removed rom the rena to hospital.
It's not the first time that the medical emergency people, local doctors and others have been called upon to help with serious situations at the Kitimat areana -- and as usual they performed with distinction.
There was no "us" or "them" in this case just a great combined response for a young hockey player in trouble. Can't say enough!
