I know I am writing this a little late, but I have been very busy, but I still feel the need to write this....Now, there has been quite a bit of talk on fighting in the league.....I personally like the 2 fight rule that Colt had suggested here awhile ago....
What happened at the last minutes of the Rampage vs. Steelheads game on January 16th was a bit of a joke....Did Travis sucker punch Dykens? Probally so, but let's not forget that Dykens went down quicker than my son falling off his bike, less the crying because my son doesn't cry, he's tough.Dykens you desreve an Academy award for your performance...Enough said about that.....
My concern is what happened in the final minute. Now I know if Steely-On reads this post, he will probally put a spin on what I am trying to say here...The fight with #21 Trent Davis was dirty....Trent played a good game and wasn't even in the penalty box once....He gets attacked from this #27 Randal Groot ( I might as well call him Goon ). The reason I use the word attack is because that's what it was. A fight is a fight, but when you get a player down on the ice and you keep punching at him when he is already down, that is dirty....People do have to work and this is not Ultimate Fighting Championship here guys.
Now I may not be savy with all of the rules....But watching fights in the NHL, one can see pretty much what the rules of fighting....They are not set in stone, but more a mutual respect for a good fight. Even the great enforcers of the game understood and respected that. Your Dave Semenkos, Tie Domis, Bob Proberts, Donald Brashears, Jorge Laroques,etc....When they got a player down, they would stop punching, get up and walk away. Groot carried on punching while Travis was down, and then after he gets up and skates to his bench like he's a big man for doing that...Give me a break...He's a goon, and shouldn't be doing crap like that. But what's done is done.
Now here in Rupert we play tough because we are passionate about the game, but as far as playing dirty, I think we play far from it.When we finish our checks, sometimes the other team takes exception on how we do it, but the key word here is " FINISH ", because that is what we do...Finish the check...
Was it , Do you know the difference Doc?No score for this post

Your memory is short and your knowledge of our great game is somewhat on the Challenged side.
Why don't you ask Trent if he was not expecting some sort of retaliation from a previous game against the Steelheads. In this league and all league's that I know of, if you intentionally hurt someone, payback is a bitch and guaranteed, it just might take a game or two.
You called that fight dirty? Two willing combatant, one hits the Ice with the other throwing punches, no linesmen to break up the fight. Groot the class that he is, realized that he was by far the victor, stopped his pummelling of Trent and skated away, he did not have to. In Groots mind, the Debt is paid, in Trents mind, is he will think twice before doing a chicken **** act knowing somebody is going to get hurt.
Two beatings for one chicken **** act, and it might not be over, I hear that other teams in the league are waiting for their payback.
As for your clean, finish the check team, I would bet there are players on the Rampage that would disagree with you, the ones that know the game.
I would be more worried, in your team being in the same class as Terrace, Hazelton and Omenica.
Same classNo score for this post

The Omineca Ice may have some problems and with weddings and all have had player issues but I didn't think we have been running around gooning it up. Yes some stupid penalties ate some questionable times but that is seen in almost every game.
Omenica...No score for this post

definitely not in the Terrace, Hazelton category...Steely-on is offside...again!!

Maybe not this year....... But Last year they beat themselves.
I hope there is a change.
So what you're sayin Steely-OnNo score for this post

So what you're sayin Steely-On is that Groot was out there for retribution on Trent?!? Like I said man this not Ultimate Championship Fighting....
But you know what? If the issue is how Trent ducks at the last second avoiding the hit,and doing that may cause the other player to get injured. Well I don't blame him. If a player is on the " trolley tracks " and moves away at the last second, he's basically protecting himself from any possible injury ...If the other player gets injured in the process, it's to bad for him. He shouldn't of been driving the " trolley car " without a proper license. Now to me retribution for this type of play makes no sense. It's not dirty....
Now as for my knowledge being challenged in our great nations game, I make no bones about it...I can't skate that well, but I do play the odd game of Ball and Floor hockey....What is the round black thing that they use to play ice hockey called.....I forget....How silly of me...

Its called turtling and its one of the durtiest plays in hockey. Can turn a harmless, everyday hit into an injury, especially around the boards. Which play were you talking about Steely?

I not taking sides in this spat, but you seem to be wearing the rose coloured glasses here Doctor. You think it's no big deal that Dykens was sucker punched becuase he dives and whines, yet you have a problem with retribution against your teams player? seems like both plays are just frusteration built up by a team brought on by an individual who eventually paid for getting under his opponents skin.
Not saying Dykens whines and dives....No score for this post

I didn't say Dykens whines and dives. What I said was he went down pretty quick after the punch, and believe me, it wasn't much of a punch to make him fall down as if he were shot or something.
In terms of retribution, I hope there is more retribution on the score board, than there is on the penalty minutes.
Regarding turtling, they do it all the time in the NHL. In fact, if you were watching the Montreal vs. St.Louis game on tonight, a Montreal player just did exactly that. So I don't know man....

You should keep playing with your Ball.
You will never clue in...........
Actually I have clued in...No score for this post

I have clued in....Maybe players players take exception to how Trent turtles, but that doesn't make it right that you come here and say that retribution was needed...In my mind it is this kind of retribution that is going to put a black eye on the league.
When a player injures another key player by sticking out their knee ( ie: Moore on Naslund ), then O.K., something is going to happen the next time those teams meet. When a player takes liberties with another key player, then O.K., something is going to happen when those teams meet.
Trent didn't do any of those...Unless it was done out of town, because I can't make those games....But none the less, you are looking for retribution for someone's style of play, and that is just wrong.
As me not cluing in or playing with my BALL....I have clued in, and just beacuse I got pair to speak my mind, doesn't mean I should play with em....

The game we are all referring to happened in Smithers.
The fear of retibution is what keeps all sports teams,
at least a little honest, but I am afraid for your sake
payup time is hard to handle.
Spend some time talking to some of the more level headed
players from the Rampage, the ones with skill and experience,
you will find that most would suport me.
Rampage have the best fans in the League........

I am also done. I don't mind a good combat of the words, and I appreciate that you say we have the best fans of the League....As you can tell I am one of them...
I think I will talk with some of the other Rampage players and try to get what I am missing here, and see if most of them would agree with you. I know a couple that agree with me....But let's just end it at that.
Steely-on, I do enjoy your posts, and hope you keep posting. As for me, I am passionate for what the Rampage has done for Rupert, and if I believe that there is something that doesn't seem right, I will speak on on it....Thanks for your responses...
