be the first to poost this, but I guess I am.
The Coy Cup has been set, once again, for the 16-21 of March, the week after B.C.'s school break week. This is a much more sensible decision.
This is another city's Coy Cup, so I really want to leave the promos to the Powell River Regals as host -- but people need to know the dates are now agreed to.
There are a number of unsettled items -- again, it's not up to me to reveal all the details... so suffice to say, the dates are confirmed. I did ask the question about the junior games clashing -- and PRR feel fairly sure that this will not be the case.
BCAHA has confirmed that Bob James has stepped aside from his Senior Hockey Director position "for personal reasons" and did not elaborate. All I can say is "Good Luck to Bob -- and enjoy your travels..." His contribution has been enormous.
At this point all I can say is that the defending champions, the Williams Lake Stampeders, the three-time Coy Cup winners the Kitimat Ice Demons, the Smithers Steelheads and the Houston Luckies will all be gunning to move on to the second round of the playoffs this weekend and there will be a lot of good hockey to go under the bridge in our league before we will know which teams will be travelling to Powell River.
But, one thing is for sure, the CIHL will have strong representatives in Powell River.

Since the confrence call and the consideration to turn in this into a 5 team tournament, the date will have to be March 15-20. A 5 team format is a very difficult challenge to come to a fair & equitable solution, but you have all received the proposed format and reasons to support the layout. We think this is fair to eveyone that participates.
As to comments about a conflict with the Jr A team, we can't control this at this stage. The Jr's would have to make it all the way into the 3rd round (Coast Championship)...while this is a possibility, there are also some pretty good teams in there conference and lots of hockey left. We have a good relationship with the BCHL and will work with them. With proposed coy format there are 2 days with only one game, if a potential conflict presents itself we may have to move those times to a 4:30 start...this is normal (except for the host)for teams competing in a tournament anyway.
