The Prince George Mohawks played their first home game since 1985 last night in front of a packed house at Kin1 (roughly 900 fans). The crowd was very appreciative of the effort and excited to see the Mohawks back on the ice despite the fact they were spanked 7-1 by Fort St. john who had all their ringers in for a final tune up for the Allan Cup. Flyers led 3-0 after 1 and 5-0 after 2. Former Smithers Steelhead Mike Verticchio scored the lone Mohawk goal. The Flyers dominated the game start to finish as the Mohawks had a hard time generating any chances or even shots. Prince George has a lot of talent, but a real lack of experience at the senior level and 90% of the team hasn't played competitive hockey for years. I wouldn't be to fearful of this team joining the CIHL, but given a couple years they will likely be ready to truely compete at the AAA level. Perhaps some exhibition games would be a good opportunity to evaluate if these guys would actually dominate the league as bad as we might think.

The Prince George team played their last year in 1996 in which they lost to the Powell River Regals in a best of 5 series that was AAA,

They started back up in 1993, hosted savage in 1994, they had the Potskins and Rose's and many great players I am sure they will be a good team in the future

thanks for the correction. The PA announcer gave a little history recap of the team last night during an opening ceremony and I thought I heard him say the team folded in 85.

Saturday night game

The two teams played the second of a three game set saturday night with both teams icing their A line-up (both teams are carrying around 30 players). This time the Mohawks played a much better game and were in it until the end. Flyers benefited from 5 power play goals and a couple real softies, but were able to up their game an extra notch in the third when the score was tied at five for an 8-5 win. 4-2 Flyers after 1, 5-5 after 2. Good game played in front of around 500 fans.

sunday ended 4-2 Flyers. Really good competitive game. Flyers led 2-0 and 3-2 at the intermissions. Mohawks sat most of their top forwards to make room for some young guys while the Flyers had a few guys fly home aswell, although not many. Goodluck to FSJ and PR in the Allan Cup. Bring it back to BC boys.

I was at all games this weekend and in my opinion the mohawks would destroy any cihl team by 7 goals... Too much talent on this squad .. I watched all the ice games last season and got to see a handful of teams so I have a pretty good idea about the cihl ... I still think they should enter the league because we would get great gates here in pg decent crowds all games.. Really good fans

your over stating the Mohawks talent.... or maybe under estimating the CIHL teams. Prince George would be the team to beat if they entered the CIHL, but Kitimat, Smithers and Williams Lake could all hang with them and in a short series, who knows. There would be no benefit to having them play games against the likes of Hazelton, Terrace and Omineca... it would be ugly, like it often is when the current CIHL teams play them, Burns, Houston and Rupert would not be able to handle the depth either but would be respectable. Only the top three could give them a run and I would like to see those teams make time to play the Mohawks. It would certainly help those teams raise their game while the Mohawks would definitely still be getting a good competitive opposition. Might be a good central location for the Northern Cup exhibition series next year?

There were alot of former and current CIHL'ers on the mohawk roster this weekend. Mike Verticchio, Brent McIsaac, Shuan Fomenoff, Mark Nelson, Guy Walsh, Derek Wood and Dave Gordin are the ones I can think of off hand.
