but this one stayed clean and both teams stuck to hockey...
Had to feel bad for Keano Wilson in net for Hazelton to start. After beating Demons in shootout a couple of weeks ago, he didn't even see the first three shots and was down 3-0 before pulling himself at the four minute stage of the first period.
Cody Smith played well, but was overwhelmed. Demons just rolled over four lines, Shots 56-18. Decent crowd of 600 won't be back today for game 2 at one o'clock. Hoping Wolverines will have some cavalry coming in...
Demons turned this one into something of a passing and shooting practice...but didn't let up, considering their position and the one and four start to the season. Two players with four point games, Jeff Baker (4a) and Craig Hewitson (goal, 3 a) and five with three point games, Markwart, Coleman, Whelan, Brandon and Derek Wakita.
Smith played as well as possible - Wolverines goals from Jordan and Ryan Muldoe, one each in second and third periods. Only three pp goals in game, two for Kitimat, one for Hazelton.
Each team picked up five minors.
It was the biggest blow out fo the Demons since Curtis Cardinal got cut leg last year and demoralized Wolverines went down 15-1.
No gloating, that's for sure -- kudos to Wolverines for making a game of it...clean and lots of effort, just too shorthanded.

Hey Kitimat fan, your team looked really good, but hazelton only had 4 or 5 regular players, and 2 or 3 of them looked to be too out of shape to be on the ice, so it was like Hazelton was shorthanded every time they were on, but give them credit for going to play the mighty Demons, it was pretty sad of your number 4 trying to fight with one of the wolves in the last ten minutes, what did he have to work on sunday and was trying to take out a player from hazelton, like they weren't short handed enough, quit your whining all the time and start looking at the game from both perspectives.

I spent a bit of time choosing words carefully in order not to allow this to get out of perspective. Obviously a waste of my time, in your case in particular.
I doubt very much that Dave Venman in any kind of fit of pique was not provoked in whatever fantasy fight scenario you saw... We just wanted the games over, with nobody injured on either side. Both games were mild in terms of hits and rough stuff -- perhaps with the exception of Phil Morrison's spear on Power which was not caught by refs. Guys like Phil and Al Tolmie, as we all know, just don't like to lose ... neither do we.
We are well aware this year of Hazelton's (and other teams including ourselves) difficulty in getting a full squad to travel for a double header these days. The scheduling difficulties that we tried so hard to avoid were caused by a much-hyped and hullaballooed private "all nations tournament" that everybody except Kitimat Council and the "promoter" knew was a doomed affair, and was, as we expected cancelled leaving Tamitik empty when we should have been hosting the Wolverines three weeks earlier. It cost us thousands in lost attendance, extra travel costs etc.
especially because we had to host Hazelton this past weekend, one of the most difficult in terms of opposing events, Xmas parties etc.
Demons certainly don't see this as a sign of overwhelming success...it's just the way things are in the West Division.
The rest of the season, mostly at home and finishing with the Burns Lake Braves double header, first time in years, will really tell all before the playoffs.

You were at the game! Keano Wilson did not play in net for the Wolverines when they won the game over Kitimat in Hazelton in the shootout. No need to feel sorry for him. Smith stepped in after Keano received a cut on his leg. Smith was also in net in Terrace when a flooky goal went in the last minute of the game.
Cody Smith and Cory Croft have been taking the brunt of many Kitimat games when the Wolverines played short handed in the past so Keano as a talented young goalie will have to do the same.
We all know it isnt easy for a goal tender to step into a game when they dont expect to play or a change is made to the starting line up at the last minute. Mental preparation is key to their game and coaches need to recognize their individual tendencies as tenders. Looks to me since the beginning of the season that the Hazelton goal tenders have generally done a good job under the hugely different circumstances that they face over last year.
Hazelton must have consistency from the coaching staff, not just the players.
Looking at the situation now,Hazelton is going to continue to struggle due to some major injuries, young players,inconsistent/lack of support from behind the bench and too few talented veterans on the ice.
It would be nice to think things will change however what matters now is that the players who have been putting in the effort continue to try to play as a team under the new rules and finish the season.

I just checked the score sheet to see, but forgot that Wilson went out with injury. I think you guys were winning at the time and he was playing great.
Apologies -- don't mind being corrected when I'm wrong...

Excuse me sir!! i really have no clue what u were watching but i turned down a fight in the 3rd period cause i had my 4 year old son and my wife in the stands watching. i in no way was wanting or trying to fight anyone on the wolves. i felt bad for them and i gotta give it to phil morrison for playing hockey for the team and not trying to goon it up. i thought he played well and didn't loose his cool. they truly are a better team with him playing and not watching. koodos phil. Also to the stats guy the mildy goal in the third was assisted by #4 not 21. it looks close to being 21 but its a 4. i fed him the breakout pass and like the mildy we all know he did the rest from end to end. FLAWLESS!! lol cheers and check ya later.

i was watching the game, and in the last 8 minutes or so of the game, i seen you skate behind #17 and slap him in the back of the calves with you stick a couple of times and he turned around with a look of what are you doing, why would u follow him like that if you weren't looking for a fight, he didn't have the puck or was even close to it, it was a bad game to watch, must have been even harder to play, but it is over and i can only hope that Hazelton can put in some players that can compete for the remaining games, i'm guessing its gonna be thier last season in the league.

I seen that play as I was babysitting a blue line...Venny was just explaining that he didn't like the way Moran was bumped by him and his stick work aroung the net..wack on calves was his way to get him to turn around. Venny not once said lets go!...more like watch your stick A**H***...happens alot more then most people catch on to. lots goes on during a game and there is games and posturing withing it. Just like when Venny took the penalty in front of his net..Phil was pulling on Morans skate at the time Venny shoved his head into the ice, but still he didn't try and fight he just was letting Phil know that that was a No No! (Phil got up with big smile on face cause he plays Defence the same way) the game is played by men so let them be men!

That's how Kitimat does it! During the game they will slash you in the calf when the ref isn't looking. Later in the game your calf is tightening up and its harder to skate. These guys aren't brand new, and they know when to do it and get away with it! Lots of championships won with this as part of your strategy!! I don't think the coaching staff tells the players to do it, they do it on their own without getting caught! Works if you don't get caught! If your opponent can't skate, well you know the rest of the story!!

You talk about Kitimat players and how they hit guys behind the play when the ref's aren't looking. Ever watch Steve Cullis, he is a master at that game. He instigates then runs away. He reminds me of Ken "Rat" Linsemen. Good to see that he finally got 10 mins for being an whining.
