The big guy WAS back on the ice for the Wolverines today, but in first game of the season didn't have a big impact. Showed a bit in a second period goal, assisting on Morrison score, why he was CIHL scoring leader last year. But didn't seem ready to come back yet from broken hand?? Skating a little slow...
Moran, however, was not in the mood for goals at his end...
However Cardinal's presence did add some intensity to Hazelton in the first and second periods -- in fact he had the first shot on goal of the game.
But you can't be as shorthanded as Hazelton was again today and win against a Demons team that is starting to put the pieces back together again. They just rolled over four lines and piled up the points.
Cardinal was sea-gulling in the third and paid for it was Dave Venman picked the puck off his stick and fed Derek Wakita for a goal...
Again, however, kudos to Keano Wilson who went back in the Hazelton net and played the whole game...made a lot of good saves, but had the disadvantage of a tired defense...
Demons' 16 goals provided the team offense with 42 points, Terry Whelan had four goals and 1 a, Coleman four goals and two a, Mildenberger had a great end-to-end rush goal and four a, Markwart a hat trick and two a...and so on.
A great confidence builder for the Demons, especially watching their passing plays. The team didn't really try to bury Hazelton, but the last six goals in the final 10 minutes just kept going in... and the Wolverines were just too tired.
Getting into a tie with Terrace for first place in the West, even though they have two games in hand -- the games in hand are v. Kitimat and the two play Dec. 18 so that should be a dandy.
Again not a rough game really. Morrison got away with a spear on Joel Power who was caught by referee Bell, reacting, and got two and a 10 -- but only four minors to each team besides that incident. Only one power play goal by Whelan ...

Hey poppa hewey, if u were watching the same play, you woulda saw that he speared me first, right between the legs.I was gonna pay him back but thought about my team and how short we were and held back. my stick didnt even touch him. as you would see in my stats, compared to previous years, that i am tryna focus on hockey and tryna stay out of the box. but this is expected from your point of view. this is hockey and stuff happens in the heat of the moment. |

I had just forgotten.
Even Hewey told me you apologized for the punch to the head after he skimmed past you Saturday.
My advice is keep it up...you're better on the ice than in the box. I also think your coach is on the right track with his strategy...it's an unusual one and I suppose a hard one to impose on adults, especially some of the more died-in-the- Woolverines!
Best of luck, buddy...get these young guys back on the ice, skating and passing...
Maybe see you again in playoffs...
