This was a very close game as Terrace produced their best game since their fast start to the season. The Demons, minus a few players such as Daniel Meyer, Dave Venman and Robb Lafferty -- did not play their best game of the season this night.
Terrace, down 1-0, on a go-ahead goal by Derek Wakita (Terry Whelan, Wade Masch), four minutes into the second period, came back hard after Kory Finn and Chris Brown, both showed some undisciplined play that lead to a double minor for Finn and two for Brown for roughing, got back into the game on the power play, with a nice hard shot by Josh Murray (David Tooms) just three minutes later.
Less than three minutes later, Terrace got a second power play goal after Craig Hewitson went off for holding, when Taylor Mallett was the recipient of a good deflection in the crowd in the Demons' crease. Assists went to Jeremy Vanderbroek and Rich Clair - and suddenly the Demons were behind, 2-1.
Hewitson came out of the box and less than 30 seconds off the faceoff, backhanded a pass from behind the Terrace net to Blaine Markwart who bulged the net easily. Wade Masch got another assist.
This game became a bit of a knock-down, drag 'em oput all throughg the third and both goaltenders, Brett Vilness and Patric Leal, for Terrace, showed some sterling stuff in net.
Terrace called a time out with 1.07 left in the tied game and a face-off in their end, and Demons had time to rest the Coleman, Hewitson, Markwart line for the face-off. Hewitson got possession off the draw, got the puck back to Markwart and Ian Coleman poked at the rebound puck to put it across the line, for the game-winner with 0.57 left of the third period.
Twenty seconds later Rich Clair took a two minute cross-check penalty and the Demons simply controlled the puck to the final whistle.
It was anybody's game and a lot of fans were anticipating overtime... and this time I give credit to Terrace for a much more disciplined and determined game that turned into a nail-biter that was both exciting for the fans... and left Terrace with a good feeling about the close game they played.
Perhaps the long winning experience of the line that took the late game-winner was the difference...as both teams shortened the benches in the third period.
Next week Kitimat will host the Prince Rupert Rampage starting at 8 p.m.

I deleted the posts from this message to save some face to the kid who's name is being dragged through the mud unjustly. Any further comments on this thread will be game related.

After you finish rolling your own Tampons, you should delete the "coaching disaster" thread also. theres where the unjust lies(?). "Just volunteering for a jacket" as was once posted...

Well DP, your entitled to your opinion, but the reality is this young man is being largely embarrassed by his fathers actions, and your responses. I don't mind people taking heat and giving some jabs on here to players, coaches and whoever else, but this kids name shouldn't be getting dragged down because of his relatives behaviour and your reaction to it.
Critiquing coaching decisions is something done at every level by every level of fan from grumpy old men who never played the game to main stream sports media and should be taken with a grain of salt. It's been displayed how good the source is in this case as well. I think these men who are "volunteering for a jacket" realize that and know what they are getting into before the puck ever drops, which is why i will not delete a thread questioning coaching decisions.

The kid had been praised for his abilities and at the same time critiqued for a couple of his actions, nobody was dragging him into something he hadn't created on his own, along with a number of players around the league that have drawn negative feedback upon themselves. That is what this forum is for as you have stated. It was his Mommy not his Daddy that started the whole issue due to his actions or a lack thereof.. just pointing things out as we do on here.. Out opinions, that is it...

Well put.Thanx for you mature actions.
Darrell I'm sure you'd feel a little different if your own 2 kids were being verbaly attacked by as Rusty put "Grumpy old men".
Instead of using "daddy" it should have been Darcy and instead of "mommy" it should have been Maria.
But, unfortunately you chose to still act like a child.
Sorry everyone but this one thread could not of been left alone.
Hopefully Darrell will be an adult and stay away from this subject and my family.

It took a late goal, with just 57 seconds left in the 2-2 tied second game of the CIHL West Division finals before the Kitimat Ice Demons were able to eliminate a much harder-working Terrace River Kings, 3-2. Saturday night at Tamitik Arena in Kitimat.
The River Kings came in with the memory of four straight defeats at the hands of the Demons as the season wound down. This season, with a slow Ice Demons start, and a good early run for the River Kings had shown them battling it out with the Prince Rupert Rampage for the division lead just before Christmas. But most of the fell apart in an ugly January and in the first game of round one of the playoffs, won by the Ice Demons, 5-3, last week in Terrace.
Kitimat may have been looking beyond Terrace and got caught looking as a hard-fought opening period ended 0-0, with Terrace looking the more aggressive team. But just 3.15 minutes into the second period, Kitimat got a good go-ahead goal off a face-off in the Terrace end when Terry Whelan got a good high shot on goaltender Patrick Leal, which rebounded at the feet of captain Derek Wakita who quickly put it in the net. Wade Masch had the second assist.
That seemed to wake up both teams, and an undisciplined roughing incident involving Demons' Kory Finn and River Kings' Chris Brown, in the box, with Finn getting a double minor. Terrace tied the game on the ensuing power play, as Terrace played the box well and Josh Murray one-timed a David Tooms pass behind Brett Vilness in the Demons' net.
With the penalties over, Terrace was re-energized and Craig Hewitson left the Ice Demons shorthanded again, when he was assessed a holding penalty on a Terrace rush at 11.29. He just made it back on the ice a second before Terrace got a go-ahead goal, with 9.35 left in the period. The lead did not last long. From the next face-off, Wade Masch sent Craig Hewitson into the corner to the left of Patrick Leal, He was being pursued round the back of the net when he slid a backward pass to Blaine Markwart at the edge of the crease and he lofted it behind the goaltender as he came away from the post, to tie the game 2-2, just 30 second from the face-off, with 9.00 minutes left.
The remainder of the second period was a see-saw affair, with Kitimat trying hard to get the go-ahead goal and Terrace coming on Brett Vilness in waves. Shots in the period indicated the play, Kitimat 13, Terrace 11.
The third was a hard-hitting affair, with both teams shortening the benches to three lines, as referee Mike Mehr from Smithers let the teams settle it. Going into the final two minutes, each team had only a single roughing penalty to show for all the crashing and banging. Terrace had the edge in shots 9-8 at that point and both teams were knocking on the door as the goaltenders responded with some excellent saves.
But a tiring Terrace, with over time looming, called a time out to plan last minute strategy, with just 1.07 remaining. The time out allowed coach Danny Baker to rest the forward threesome of Ian Coleman, Craig Hewitson and Blaine Markwart, which took the ice to replace the third line. Hewitson won the face-off, got the puck back to Markwart who got a shot of goal and Ian Coleman poked at the rebound which deflected over the line off a skate in the crush in the crease this time, just 10 seconds after the puck dropped -- and the 750 Kitimat fans erupted.
Terrace was deflated and 19 second after the centre-ice face-off, Rich Clair took a frustration cross-check penalty and the Demons simply controlled the puck in the Terrace end until the final whistle.
The Ice Demons knew they hadn't played their best game, and may have been guilty of under-estimating Terrace and looking ahead to the next playoff round. They know they'll
be playing a stronger team next week, Division-winning Prince Rupert Rampage, which eliminated the Hazelton Wolverines in two high scoring games.
The second round game goes at 8.00 p.m.
