31 year Old Stephen Peat signed with the Penticton Vees Senior AAA Hockey Team at the signing deadline Feb. 10,2011. The 6' 2" 245 lbs power forward is now fully recovered from a broken leg he suffered in training camp a few years back that forced him to remove himself from the NHL Spotlight. He was the 32nd overall pick in the 1998 NHL entry draft by the Anaheim Ducks but was traded his first NHL season to the Washington Capitals where he established himself in the NHL betweeen the years of 2001 to 2006 when the injury occurred. At 31, So much has happened in Stephens Career, he is still young and in his prime, he is now playing his way back in the game at the Senior level, in hopes of getting himself back into the NHL. The Senior Vees management are very happy he chose the Senior Vees to play and he will be a big weapon for the Vees chance at winning the Allan Cup.

thats all i can say about this deal HUGE. This guy point up mediocre points in junior/ the show but 1 thing he has done is proved he can legitimately play as a pro and thats something that is ultimately the wow factor. should be big for the VEES. I'm excited to see the allan this year should be a legendary barn burner of an event

When I heard this one come down the pipe I just about S#@t my pants of the thought of this guy playing at the Senior level. This guy is F@#*!ing Scary. Free toe tags if you want to take this guy on in the Senior division. Teams better be warned before they play the Senior Vees to not cross this guy, I'm F@#*%ing serious. Anyway, he will be big force for the Senior Vees and he will be playing old time hockey as he knows he was a destroyer already in the NHL and won't have anything to prove at the Senior level , what's the point. If someone does try him out it will be one sorry Day.

i heard that penticton also signed josh ormsby? i thought he was playing in some fighting league? if thats the case then thats quite the combo of peat and ormsby for toughness wow. peat was a legit heavy in the show and the whl and ormsby was a heavy in junior down here. that should open some ice for the rest of the team

hey wolverine or whatever your name is did you play in the nhl?

thats what i thought

Oh please, Peat is one tough SOB, but there has been a ton of tough guys play senior hockey and in a one fight league with suspensions in the last ten minutes, nobody will be running scared. Lot's of guys can chuck with Ormsby as well. I think all three AAA teams in BC have NHL, NCAA, AHL, WHL and BCHL experience and toughness in their line-ups.

Thanks also Rusty. Glad you responded but just wanted to add how many times have we heard of a team starting up and someone is heard playing there then "someone" comes on here and says "I hear Josh Ormsby has signed there" and what not.

The only thing I want to add WHY. What did Osmby do that was so impressive with those teams. Please explain. There are a ton of other players out in the lower mainland that could play and and are better players. I don't recall Orsmby having a big impact here in Trail.

Sorry don't see the Sr Vees yet as a Allen Cup contender. Glad they are going again and all but from the teams they have played not AAA caliber, except Flyers. It's a start but have a ways to go.

Good Luck

Peat and Ormsby, two players that have something to prove. Creates interest and that is what sells the game.

Tough guys + Allan Cup

No score for this post

I have been to eight Allan Cups and I can count on one hand how many fights I have seen. Actually, I've seen more fights in the stands that I have on the ice. And don't forget a tough guy that makes the NHL had to be a pretty good play some were along his career to get to that level. Good luck to the three BC teams vying for a berth in the Allan. Also, first year teams rarely win the Senior AAA title.

Don't get me wrong goveesgo, It's a big signing and definitely the type of signing that will help generate interest in your team and hopefully help put some butts in the seats, just saying that this is the norm of AAA hockey and it's really not, on it's own, going to elevate your team to an Allan Cup contender.

My goodness, this wasnt meant to start world war 3 haha. I was simply stating the fact that Penticton has added some toughness. Never once did i say this meant they were going to win the Allan Cup. I also never said Stephen Peat was a 50 goal scorer and dominated in the NHL, nor did i say Josh Ormsby was the greatest player to play Junior hockey. I didnt go on about their skill set, all i said was that with those 2 in the Vees lineup, it SHOULD create some extra time for their team mates, thats all! Now, if you are going to argue with me about how tough both guys are, then thats crazy! Never said they were the Sedin twins, all i said is they are tough, thats all. Turn the page.

Also, if you had a Senior team that just signed a guy that played a significant number of games in the NHL, then you would be exploiting that news as well. i can recall Powell River making a pretty big deal of signing Ridley, Leach, Malkock etc...

As long as those two play old time hockey everything will be fine. Remember Peat was a member of the Canadian World Juniors. Intimidation is still part of the game, say the name Justin Buflyn to Roberto Luongo and he turns into a jellyfish.

So if the Vees are going to make a run at the Allan Cup and want to get by the Flyers and Mohawks they will need more than Peat. Orsmby would be 4th line at best as he was here in Trail. Also that was years ago. He also tried his luck with Whitehorse and Chilliwack and heard through the grapevine called the Regals.

GoVees if you think these two pick ups are moving you onto I assume play Bentley you need to get out and watch more Sr AAA hockey. Go back and look at the rosters of Trails team Powell River teams and the Flyers last year. They would destroy the teams you have played and lost to. Not the same level. The college teams are okay but NOT AAA level.

Maybe GreenandGold or Malispia could clarify the big difference. I know their AA team has played SFU and Vic a few times.

Just saying having those two skating around to "give room" won't help if you don't have someone to put the puck in the net.

srsmoke please read previous messages. THEY DIDNT SIGN PEAT AND ORMSBY TO SCORE. NO ONE SAID THEY WERE 50 GOAL SCORERS. Penticton has some forwards with pro and whl experience, i dont think putting the puck in the net will be a problem. Adding another element (ie toughness) might be just what this team needs. I wouldnt want to be a dman when Peat comes barelling down the ice.

If you did watch some senior hockey in Trail, then why are you bashing the teams Penticton has played? With comments like yours, no wonder senior hockey seems to die a little every year. People should either support the game at the AAA level or keep their negative comments to themselves. I came on here stating a fact, which was Penticton will have some toughness, and you went on some weird spiel about the apparent "low level" teams the Vees have played and how, in your words "they are going to need more then 2 skating around" to win games. I guess thats why they play the games and you watch. Good luck to all the teams in BC and the people that support the game at that level.

Well, despite all our views on the Vees adding these guys and where their team stands at the triple A level one thing is for sure. About two months ago they came to PG with something like 10 skaters and got plastered 16-1 and 17-2 or something like that. There was also issues getting ice time at home and to be honest it looked like a team that had tried, but would never actually get their feet off the ground. Now they have played some real competitive games against some college teams and added some pieces to their teams puzzle, as well as created a team website (which even most of our long time teams can't keep updated) and it would appear they are well on their way to being competitive at the top level and more importantly, becoming a long term member of the Senior circuit in BC.

Granted they lost those 2 games, however, Penticton went up to PG with less then half their now current roster and a goalie that is no longer on the team. I dont really think thats a fair evaluation of the team. They did beat a pretty good university team, and should have their full lineup in time for the PG series at the end of the month. It sounds like sour grapes from a couple people that no longer have a senior AAA team in Trail and Powell River, which is a shame because both teams, especially Powell River lately, have a pretty storied history and some success. I hope that one day there could be a AAA league like they do in basically every other province.
