Warm up is in the books and the season is on the line. Lots of new looks for the Rampage, but after last night we won't read too much into it. It looks as though the forum might be buzzing tonight though as Trent Davis draws back in to the line up. It would appear that he replaces Travis Helland in the line up.

After twenty minutes ......

Rupert 2, Stampeders 1

Great start for the Rampage, with Millar in the lineup. A power move to the net by Robin Gomez lead to a powerplay goal and Johnny 'on the spot' Hunt (R Millar) put Rupert on the board. Chris Brlecic (JT Ward, J Hunt) added another on the poweplay as Rupert went 2-2 in the period. Brett Stava had a chance to make it 3-0, bun failed to find the back of the net.

Williams Lake had a couple of powerplay chances, but failed to convert. However, Christopher Bohlin (S Sasges, M Lees) got one back for the visitors with 18.5 seconds left in the first.

Let's go boys, need another period like that.

After forty minutes ........

Rupert 4, Williams Lake 2

Rupert picked up where they left off in the first and put a lot of pressure on the Stamps early in the period. Brett Stava (C Stava, R Millar) added another goal for the home side. At 3-1 the game really took on a heated element, as Williams Lake started to pick up the hitting. It lead to a slew of penalties, on of which saw Phillip Simoes (S Sasges, B McIssac) score a shorty on a give away in the Rupert end.

The two goal lead for Rupert was restored by Brett Stava (T Jackson), on a shift that was all TJ. The affectionately nicknamed 'Grandpa' rushed the puck up ice, around a Stamp Dman and got a shot away. TJ then followed up with a hit behind the net, dug up the puck and forced it out front. Really good shift for the old guy.

Need to keep up the intensity boys, you know the Stamps are coming hard in the third.

About the tiebreak. By the Ice Demons' reaction at the far side of the arena, they were celibrating the Williams Lake victory like they had won. I assumed that meant they were through to the final, but maybe not.

Game Recap

March 10 2011, 11:15 PM

It's with conflicting emotions that I recap this game. One one side, it's always disapointing to see your team's season come to an end with a loss. However, the hockey fan in me also has to say "Damn, what a game". What was simply a good game through forty minutes, turned into edge of your seat fireworks in the third.

The final frame started with a bang, as Paul Girodat (J Winkel) pulled the visitors within one. Robin Gomez (J Boot) quickly restored the two goal lead with a snapper that got behind Justin Foote (who replaced Sellars in the second). The puck may have crossed the line, or maybe Foote pulled it back out. Either way, it ricocheted off of Aaron Zurak and into the net. A couple of minutes later, Phillip Simoes (B McIssac, C Bohlin) cut the lead in half. The game settled in a little, until a scary moment with eight minutes to go, when the Stampeders crashing the net caused a pile up that put Rupert keeper Keith Movold on the crowd. It would take him a few minutes to shake it off and play resumed. With five to go, Paul Girodat was hauled down on a made scramble for a loose puck and was awarded a penalty shot. He converted and the game was tied. On the next shift, Williams Lake took it's first lead of the game when Wilfred Robbins slammed home feed from Francis Johnson behind the net. Rupert ramped up the pressure and with just under three to go, Robin Gomez (D Lawrence, C Woodrow) fired home a bouncing puck to tie the game and electrify the crowd. Two shifts later Francis Johnson (M Lees, W Robbins) put the Stampeders back into the lead. Rupert tried desperately to get the game back to even, including five or six offensive zone faceoffs in the final twenty seconds. It was to no avail, as Aaron Zurak put the puck into an empty net as time expired.

With this result, I believe that Kitimat came out on top of the log jam a top the leader board. Tomorrow's game will see Powell River and Williams Lake. Either way Rupert will miss the weekend, but can hold their head's high. With a bit of a battered line up, they managed what in effect was three straight one goal losses. Not to shabby for a team just in it's third year. Big strides were taken this year and I'm sure that after a little reflection, this team will see that this year will be considered a success.

As for the Stamps, Regals and Ice Demons, good luck this weekend and I hope you continue to put on a good show. Although, it will likely be difficult to top the game from tonight.

tiebreaker

fastpass, this is how the tiebreaker worked(asphaltguy, take it easy on me i,m not an expert) 3 team tie ,same wins ,each team has beat one of the other, the goal average formula is used. The team with the best goal average in GAMES BETWEEN THE TIED TEAMS will receive the higher placing (this means the games against Rupert do not count in the equation) This is so teams do not continue to run up scores against a weaker opponent, remember this is for minor hockey also. The goal averageis determined by dividing the total # of goals for and against into the total # of goals for. KID had 6 for 5 against 6 div by 11=.545, WLS 4 for 4 against 4 div by 8=.5, PRR 6 for 7 against 6 div by 13=.461 . 1st KID-5.45 2nd WLS-.5 3rd PRR-.461. Most people usually forget the part about games involving the tied teams only. or they just figure goal differential in this case KID plus 1, WLS even, PRR -1, same result anyways.clear as mud. KID knew they would be in the final if WLS won the game last night, hence the cheering on there part. Games have been really good with the Rampage putting in an awesome showing dispite not the result they were looking for. Little disappointed in the crowds from what i had heard about there support all year. Hope they support the weekend with the Rampage being eliminated, should be quite afew from Kitimat for the final. kudos to Rupert for a job well done

Have definitely been lighter than those for the regular season and playoffs. It's a shame, cause the hockey has been fantastic.
