1.(1) Smithers Steelheads (10-0) - Just another weekend at the office for the fish. Can they go undefeated? 8 more wins needed.
2.(2) Kitimat Ice Demons (7-3-2) - Can't be too disappointed with a road split, but not satisfied either.
3.(5) Houston Luckies (5-3) - Off week, but the teams ahead of them stumbled.
4.(3) Quesnel Kangaroos (8-2-2) - 4 losses in 5 games and 3 straight on home ice. The Roos have hit adversity for the first time.
5.(4) Williams Lake Stampeders (6-4) - Hit hard with injuries and no shows the Stamps are struggling to keep up with the elite.
6.(7) Omineca Ice (4-5-2) - Big win in the vault has the ice flirting with .500
7.(9) Lac Le Hache Tomahawks (4-6) - 4-2 since an expected rough start in their first season. Tough on home ice.
8.(6) Terrace River Kings (4-5) - Teams below them took advantage of the kings week off. I expect them to be better then 8th quickly.
9.(8) Prince Rupert Rampage (3-7-1) - Tough assignment saturday, but a win on Sunday keeps them in the playoff race.
10.(10) Hazelton Wolverines (1-9-1) - Give 'em credit for showing up and battling, but there's just no enough talent to get them to the post season this year.

Not sure when last undefeated season was?

But I think it was Ice Demons in 2004-5 -- that fell apart as we were waltzed watching North Island and the Mid-Island Blazers in the first two games of the round-robin in the Coy Cup and we were wondering where the CIHL fitted into the senior hockey mix.

But a win over Houston Luckies in game three corrected the course and we took Mid-Island in the semi-final and North Island in the final, for our first Coy Cup of four.

Sunday was closer than the Steelheads might have liked, but they prevailed ... so the stars may be aligned. An undefeated season with the kind of parity we have at the top in this year's CIHL would be a feat, but post-season gets tougher...this the best Steelheads team I've seen -- but Quesnel, if they get over the goon phase, could be trouble.

No doubt the Stamps will get their lineup sorted out and Terrace are looking good, as are the Luckies. There's a long way to go...

So far J.C. Brown's schedule has, for the most part, revived some interest but audiences seem to be a bit down round the league (Quesnel an aberration, but it's year one).

I like the power rankings to start the week - gets the juices flowing and the dissension going.
