I would say the good news being League expansion with 2 new competitive teams. Bad news would be 2 teams cancelling games with a lack of players. Seems the League needs to really look at the schedule next year to resolve the play-off/distance/costs issue and also to consider the different events we all compete against during the regular season for money at our gates. The month of December should be left to teams playing close to home when nights like Friday are an option to avoid X-mas parties and UFC.
The effect of BC Hockey rules regarding host costs for the Coy Cup should be made an issue by our Executive for next season. In order to keep this championship viable host teams must be relieved of the burden of paying $2.25/km mileage and 1K per night for all visiting teams. I have a hard time believing that most of our teams could make a go of this and not lose their shirts doing so. The teams on the outer edge of the mileage senario pay big having to rely on community support and their gate to make it work. At the end of the day you`re looking at a budget of approx 60-70K which is tough for all our small market teams. Even if you could just cut the visiting team`s entitlement in half this would still provide them with something and make it much better for the hosts.
