4-1 final Terrace
Ref called Kitimat on a few penalties and could have called twice as many. You got it here first before all of the whining starts. Way to go guys.
Leal 1st star. Only Kitimat goal was at 56 minute mark that was a deflection.
Cullis 2nd star with 2
Tristan Murray 3rd star with 1 and maybe 2 goals.
1-0 after 1
2-0 after 2

Full marks to Terrace for their win tonight. Demons were really playing tight with so much on the line. Terrace game plan was simple, dump it in and pressure the D and the Demons didn`t have their usual flare. Now its time for the Demons to show what they`re made of and get back to their winning ways at the Coy. Good luck to Terrace as they move on and maybe we`ll see you again in the Coy.
OK Zooie -- you get it this year...it's your win.No score for this post

I went in the noisy Terrace dressing room, afterwards took some good-natured ribbing -- but congratulated the boys on a solid win. I urged them to carry on and hopefully we'll see them again in our third Coy Cup together in March. We have played in two Coy Cups, in Terrace and in Kitimat.
I had the feeling about the second period that no matter how hard we worked it just wasn't meant to be and the River Kings -- if you were there -- really got the breaks of the game tonight and did what they needed to do to carry it through to a round one victory.
Kings did all the right things late on tonight --- keeping us frustrated and on the outside. Some puck luck in the third when we had 18 shot to three, had lots of fans in the beer garden shaking their heads...as well
We had over 1000 in the arena -- so there was a good number from Terrace and they cheered hard at the end.
So now, I guess it'll be me buying tickets in Terrace -- and the Demons will be busy trying to bebuild their edge for March 13.
I really do hope the Kings can move ahead and keep the championship in the West Division...Good luck to all concerned.

This game was really scrambled, on both sides.. Leal was having a tough time coming across the net from right to left and Kitimat had all the chances to score but never got the shots off, and when they did they hit the cross bar. Terrace had one thing going really good last night and that was solid shot blocks from a multitude of players. The ref tried his best to let the teams do there own policing, letting a lot of after whistle activity go but could have called more penalties, I think all in all he did a pretty good job in accomplishing that, good job. Wasn't the final score I would expect coming out of Kitimats barn. If Cullis never got the gift when Moran fell down outside the crease I think it could have been a different game and more of result I would have expected, with Kitimat dominating the play up to that point of the period but that goal pretty much sealed the game ,then Tristan not giving up on the puck when Kitimat defence sort of lollygagged into the Kitimat end resulting in an empty net goal. Terrace got all the breaks and Kitimat got none. Personally I think Kitimat should have played with more experience even if it was adding only one player like Willy on defence. Mildy could not get anything going last night which from what I have seen in the past could have brought a different result, almost like someone else was wearing his jersey. This is probably the sixth kitimat team I have seen this year, Hard to get and keep momentum when the roster is changing so much.. Get it together for the Coy Kitimat. One thing I never do is count the Demons out.. Good couple of games/effort for Terrace.

... but if I say it I'm whining...
Some nights it just won't go for you and this was one of them. But the blocked shots by the Terrace D was the biggest difference in the game.

Hey Gramps, good effort. I was actually at this game, made the trip to Kitimat to watch the Demons get ousted. It was a good game though, I have to give the deems credit though, like all these other guys are saying and I can't believe I'm about to say this but I actually agree with you kmat fan, the bounces were going all for Terrace in this one. It's like Kitimat was doing all they could and just couldn't buy a geno. Tough loss I'm sure for the Demons but have to give the Kings credit, they were there when they had to be big game by Cullis out there he's always clutch. Going to be an interesting next batch of games. Fantastic crowd in Kitimat as well, I was in the beer gardens and it was "bumping" in more ways than one.
Glad you came...No score for this post

I sure don't want to say anything detrimental about the Kings. They worked for it hard -- their way. I thought we dominated a lot of the game -- BUT we were not playing with our usual precision,. Just the wrong night to dawg off ... but you have to put the puck in the net with that many opportunities.
The only thing that "chings" in my mind is that the Kings' dubious reward is to host the Steelheads on Saturday next and then go for one or two in Smithers.
But I suggest the Steelies don't take the Kings too lightly...as I said before, this isn't Burney's buddies -- they are younger, faster, still have the great skaters like the Murrays and Kerr's, Jurista and (will Souicie get back?) tough D like Tooms and Toby Mitchell and the exasperatingly chippy Cullis -- without him, they can't win. Losing in tghe last minute to Steelies in a critical game to get a spot in the playoffs should be encouraging -- play that same smothering, shot-blocking game this weekend in Terrace and they can eke out a win. One's all they need to unsettle the Steelies whose record in post season in recent years has been fragile and has not been encouraging.
Same comment, however about the Steelies -- this ain't the old Smither granola gang either.
Gonna be fun -- likelihood is Terrace has to oust Smithers to make it to the Coy Cup -- because if they lose, they'll likely be the lowest regular-season points getters and this get exed out by WLS and the Roos.
Again, as I've often said -- that's why they play the games and don't pay any attention to Forum bragging!
I have to note too that coaching in the late part of the season seems to have toned down some of the Kings' extra chippy aggressiveness and kept them out of the box a bit better. I don't know if lax-let-'em-play reffing has had a lot of do with that -- but I give them the benefit of that doubt too!
Best of luck -- I want these bigger crowds in Tamitik for the Coy Cup too and I think Terrace is a better crowd booster than the Steelheads overall.

I too went to watch this game in Kitimat, and i have to say that the reffing in this game was pretty good, called what he had to and let some stuff go, but no one got hurt, Kitimat coach should have thought more about his decision to start moran, the first goal was weak with a shot from the point, then he fell over and and gave cullis a gift, and the last goal was an error on the kitimat Dmen who pretty much passed the puck to the terrace player for a empty netter, terrace played hard, i give them credit for pressuring the kitimat d, Kitimat missed about 3 easy goals in the first that would have changed the game but thats the way it goes sometime, Good luck to the Terrace team when they face Smithers, you will do good if you can shut down their back door play, rough up the wall once in awhile too, get him off his game and you will have a great chance.
Goals against.... Terrace and SmithersNo score for this post

I Said from about mid season to watch out for the River Kings, they came away with the second best Goals against this season 3.16... despite a losing record... (.444) Only Smithers had a better Goals Against 1.83(incredible for this league)
BUT and there is always a but.... in the last 6/7 games that Goals against is CLOSER than you can imagine
Terrace - 1.714...
Smither - 1.429...
Smithers is still the team to beat, but they better not think they are going to cruise past Terrace because they are a much better team than their standings gave them credit for. Terrace can play it rough too.... #1 in penalty minutes...

Great stats, going to be an interesting series. I know Terrace will put up a good fight but I still think Smithers is going to walk away with this one in 2.
