It is really funny how people bash the Powell River Regals. this team had no one to play as a AA or AAA team but they paid BC Hockey and registered two teams but under BC Hockey rules , unless a AA team plays a minimum of 5 or 6 games prior to January 10 th I believe then the team is ineligible for Coy Cup. THey continue to try to find teams that can get ice to form a league. as mentioned in a previous post it shows that at least 10 players from past BCHL teams are signed by FSJ. This team is able to play in North Peace league. Not so in the lower mail and. Many Junior teams and not a lot of ice. Vancouver Island has 5 including PR as well as 7 Junior B teams and adding 2 more in the future
Powell River Regals deserve some slack especially with the fact that each year they are able to try to put a team together to participate in AA or AAA What's the deal if Fort St John has to leave their backyard to play elsewhere for a series. they can host the Inter -branch if they get by a team that has added the likes of goalies Justin Mulholland and David Brumby and players such as cam Cunning , Brad Priestley, Richard Mollinar , Derek Paget, Agarinov, Bertram, and Scott Kirton to name a few |

Asphaltguy, everyone knows of the situation the regals are in as far as opponents go. The reason people( mostly the AAA community in Canada) are bashing the regals, is the fact that they continually switch from AA to AAA to suit there needs. Why AAA this year and not last. Oh yea they would of had to travel to FSJ and then Red Deer if they won BC last year and the Allan cup was in the east. But this year ,sign AAA host the savage and mac if they win, and the Allan cup is in the west (LLoyd). Next year is even better ,win the savage and gain a berth in the Allan in Red Deer. And then we won't see the regals AAA again for awhile because Alta will host the mac and the Allan will head east. The regals will take a break maybe play AA and wait for another opportunity. This i would think is kinda playin the system. And that is why lots of hockey people are bashing the storied franchise of the PRR. I would like to hear your comments on this.

The Regals have plAyed in many championships for many years and like most communities here, have a fairly small population and house a Junior A team. Last year they fielded a AA team because they were able to play someone..no money meant they could not field a AAA team also and the fact that Penticton and Prince George entered AAA was great but to get games would have been a financial burden that no one could absorb..year before that they had both a AA and AAA team. The AAA team took a bath as they were forced to a playoff in Whitehorse to determine who went to Savage Cup..apparently Whitehorse not only got beaten, they also never paid their bills to Powell River. I should say they advanced to FSJ to the Allan Cup to which FSJ won the Cup..if your look beyond the last 3 or 4 years, the Regals have been there every year
The word money does indeed cause financial hardships from year to year by the way, the Maritimes is automatic into the Allan Cup as they play nobody and won Allan Cup last year..this has been true for the last number of years..so it happens on the East Coast and also the Westcoast
It's better to play rather than let a team advance automatically
It would be great to have a thriving Senior AAA loop much like AA..maybe allow these teams to play a few games in AA before entering AAA playoffs..I spoke to the Senior Director in prince Rupert last year and he said it is allowed that AAA teams could play in AA league prior to playoffs but need only to declarer but once again, pretty expensive |

Not sure you addressed any of the points about playing the system. But it's no sense us spinning our wheels here, it is what it is. AAA teams can obviosly play in AA leagues as that is what FSJ and HL do in the NPHL.The maritimes is another story that alot of AAA teams don't agree with. They declare their allan cup reps one year in advance. So last years champs Clarenville ,will not have a chance to repeat as they did not win last years playoff, the newfies send the team that won last years playoff. But in saying that they can also sign *the studs* to play for this years rep. Teams believe this gives them a pretty good advantage of not going through any playoff this year before they show up at the Allan cup.
