Wood floor stained

A customer has these two mats that have a rubber bottom to them. We cleaned them and had them dry by the time we left.

Custy called and said the cleaning cause the wood floor underneath to discolor, so I went to take a look. Sure enough it is, but I cannot figure out how I could have caused it. Im fairly certain I didn't, but I think Ill be stuck paying on this one.

underneath one edge of the carpet, it looks like a dark, blackish two foot long mark, about 3 -4 in. thick. Like some how the rubberized bottom "bled" into the finish.

I know its a no no to clean on wood floors, but seeing it had rubberized bottom, and was designed to hold water from boots, etc. I really didnt think anything like this could happen. Has it happened to anyone else?

Can it be fixed? The rest of the areas are outlined a bit darker than the natural color of the floor's finish.
