This is a great question. I'm faced with the same dilemma, as my HTS200 is pretty beat up. A basic rule, I'm told, is that a band should be playing all the same drums. A couple of our drummers have Andantes, which are considerably lighter. They also use the metal harness, rather than the sling and leg rest. We do a fair number of parades in the NY area, so the lighter weight and more balanced drum position has advantages. I'm kind of a traditionalist, though, and I like the sling, despite the downside of weight and an awkward gait.
What do others think? Should I just go for the lighter drum and the metal harness? We do more parades than competetion, so the sound issue isn't as crucial (I think).
