Can't fully concentrate on a task if music plays in the background. By the same token, when I'm using the computer I'm not in the room with a TV or radio on.
There was a time, a long time ago, when I could sit at table in a restaurant while holding a conversation AND listen to the conversations of people at nearby tables (which usually were very interesting, to say the least) but I have lost that ability. Now-a-days I can't even hear the person next to me if there are "background noises".
