on digital cameras, and chips

did a quick trip to the chippy earlier and took a few pics for 2 reasons.
1. hadnt tried out the new phone camera in low light before
2. some cheeky bastard asked why pics of my bike are always in front of my house

anyway these pics are better than anything possible with the camera gf bought for a silly amount of money 6 months ago. and i made sure she sisnt buy a shit one.

so what gives? is the technology really moving so quick a nearly new camera phone takes better pics than a 6month old reasonably expensive digital camera? or am i not as clever as i thought and she got a shitty one?
