Y'know we were having a debate about wether or not valve stems are case hardened

Well on another forum they're debating wether you can even grind over-bucket shims. Some are saying it's fine just put the ground side down, others are saying it's a total no-go, others are saying only grind the side with the numbers on, others are saying it's fine and some are saying they need to be case hardened again afterwards.
