What's the score with bent frames?

I've just been offered one of my dream bikes for a price I can't refuse (more detils if i get it).

Sadly the catch is it was in a head-on smash leaving it with buckled front wheel, knackered bars, banana shape forks, but most importantly bent frame (classic cradle style frame) and a broken engine mount.

Engine still runs fine apparently, front end i already have, but what's the score with a bent frame?

Am i close in thinking it's just a case of making sure the tyres line up with some lengths of 2"x4" timber layed on the floor?

And that straightening it's just a case of cutting it where it's bent, realigning it and welding it back together?
