If it's all torque then why not do a Mouse with direct drive off the crank by way of the standard clutch. Simple and you can make a hydraulic-or-electric-or-something-assisted hand clutch out of car parts I'm sure. One gear, no faffing about. Angle the shortened car driveshaft to an industrial right angle gearbox at the back with a car hub on it for a standard single sided car wheel setup.
Or check out the small car automatics. They're pretty good these days and some are not too long. Engine, tranny, and about 2" of driveshaft aught to still be short enough for a bike setup.
However, I could build you an MZ gearbox with my special third gear modification and four plate clutch if you want. Works great on my bike, and it's probably almost 20 horsepower!
