Those diodes are normally used to prevent leakback

So stopping relays latching accidentally and suchlike because of current coming back along the earth wire.

They don't have any heatsinking so using it as a rectifier is likely to result in a melted diode if any real amps were put through it.

The ones they use on small bikes are more like this:
