| I'm making a new seat. actually, 2 seats, a rider and pillion seat.
Polyethylene board for the 2 bases. $60.
Stainless hinges $8
fireblade pillion locks $40 for 2.
New keys and keyed alike $90
Re-con foam cut in 2 trapezium blocks, 9 quid, shipping to Aus because you can't buy decent seatfoam for love or money in this country: 60 quid
Fake leather vinyl cover $15.
50cm x 50cm x 19mm gel cushion for wheelchair: 105 quid shipped from UK cos I couldn't find one here and its still cheaper than a gel insert.
And soon I shall buy a 2nd hand electric carving knife to shape the foam: $20
Comfy arse: priceless.
This has been an exercise in "this is how I want it and nowt else will fit in with my overall design" but it certainly hasn't been cheap. And thats including me making the cover myself rather than paying the $400 I was quoted for cover alone.
Still, cheaper and better than a nitroheads seat that the yuppies round here fit to their cafe racers |
