how does sun county stay on the list - they were eliminated from playoffs in the first round by london (a team according to your list that is ranked 4 spots below)??? |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: My Hockey Rankings | February 2 2008, 9:45 PM |
suncounty was robbed and they were the better team thats why....but you can not play against the refs on the road...that was a great series and the toughest series so far....good luck to london trying to beat windsor after going to play in a tournament during the playdowns.... |

Brantford won the Alliance East and finished with the second best record next to Elgin. The guy that does these rankings has zero credibility and really needs to find something better to do with his time. |

2. How does MYHockey compute its ratings?
MYHockey's ratings are computed mathematically, with no subjective weighting or human determined values. MYHockey rates teams based upon how well they play against other teams and how good those teams are. These two factors are "AGD" or "average goal differential" and "SCHED" or "strength of schedule". AGD is currently calculated by accumulating the goal differential of each game, to a maximum of 8, and divides it by the number of games played. Using a max game goal differential of 8 does "penalize" teams that blow out opponents, but this is common in rating systems and discourages running up scores. The strength of schedule is computed by averaging the rating of each game opponent. AGD and SCHED are added together to compute a team's rating.
It's not an exact science. The ratings should be used to determine what teams might be good non-league opponents and which bracket of a tournament may be more appropriate, they are not meant to be the AP Poll for youth hockey.
get it ? NOT MEANT TO BE THE AP POLL FOR YOUTH HOCKEY.

I think the ratings are as good as any others ive come across.
Id prefer to see USA teams separate from CDN teams and you do that .
Providing a combined seT up however confuses the age differences.
Its like combining apples with the oranges,
99rs great run in the latter part of the season doesnt show up because a teams record is for the whole season plus tounamentslike losing to say Oshawa or Barrie
doesnt help. If your happy with Brantfords season dont worry about these
rankings or any others.
As for me They are objective and provide an alternative to the common rant.
They certainly parallel the OHL showcase ratings,

woh lets not get out of hand here, only the top 13 might paralell the OHL cup rankings, but from there on down its horrible. If you read the FAQ it pretty much says these rankings are a joke. |

These rankings are completely ridiculous. Brantford was ranked 27th, they then went undefeated in 10 (including wins over Huron, Sun County to win the Alliance East) and dropped to 29th. They then extended their undefeated streak to 14 with a win over London and have dropped to 30. They better stop winning so much or they will be 40th soon. These rankings have no credibility at all. |
|
anonymous (no login) | My Hockey Rankings | February 20 2008, 11:09 AM |
You're right but who did Brantford beat, Waterloo and Kitchener? Brantford is not that good a team and will lose out to London - guaranteed!
As for Sun County being ranked so high, that's a joke too. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: My Hockey Rankings | February 20 2008, 12:23 PM |
Must be Windsor talking again. Actually in that span they beat Huron, Hamilton, Sun County and London. Brantford beat London in game 1 of the semis 3-2 and in game 2 had a 1-0 lead and scored to go up 2-0 and the goal was called off for foot in the crease (in London surprise), yes you heard it right, foot in the crease. London scored 2 late in the third to win 2-1. Alot closer than you obviously figured eh! |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: My Hockey Rankings | February 20 2008, 12:26 PM |
Brantford beat more than just waterlo and kitchener, they beat cambridge back to back then hamilton and beat huron both times in their run and sun county to seal 1st |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: My Hockey Rankings | February 20 2008, 12:28 PM |
No matter how you look at it, it is pretty messed up that a team can win 13 or 14 games in a row and drop in the rankings. And 4 of the teams they beat were ranked ahead of them. Take it for what it is worth. NOTHING. The whole thing is a joke. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: My Hockey Rankings | February 20 2008, 2:26 PM |
to the Brantford supporter who is eager to critize the London refs, best you stop and have a look at your own. So that you can stop your ref bashing, they aren't hometown refs. Now that you have been brought up to speed, you can continue your bashing. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: My Hockey Rankings | February 20 2008, 4:22 PM |
Check around, there was not a person in the building who didn't think Brantford got screwed on that goal. If they count it, series over. London caught a huge break from that hometown ref. and the call might just have turned the whole series. |
|
Anonymous (no login) | Re: My Hockey Rankings | February 20 2008, 7:40 PM |
So then I guess you are saying that the refs in Brantford are also from Brantford. Well, London better check that one out before they play. |

Anonymous (no login) | Re: My Hockey Rankings | February 20 2008, 7:54 PM |
6. We won both our games this past weekend and our rating went down, how is this?
Your rating can go down even though your team wins. This can happen for a couple different reasons. First, if your team is rated 3.0 points (1 point = 1 goal) better than your opponent and you win two close games by 1 goal each, your average goal differential (AGD) is +1.0 against a team that it was expected to be +3.0. This would likely have a negative impact on your rating. Another scenario has you doing as expected against your opponent, but a large percentage of the teams you played earlier in the season doing unexpectedly bad. This lowers your strength of schedule and would lower your team's rating. It is almost impossible to guess how much and in what direction your rating will move each week because of the complexity of the math.

Their ranking is low for some reason. I believe the people that do the rankings are from the GTHL but I'm not sure. Brantford finished first in the east and made it to the Alliance finals losing to a powerful Elgin team. They definitely deserve to be in the OHL Cup. | |
